According to the Equibase Results Chart - EVENT DETAIL remained always back while racing three wide.
Running Line from Brisnet Chart (alternative format)
lengths behind the leader by call starting @ 1/4 rounded down.
12+ 10+ 4+ 13+ 18+
Event Detail broke only ahead of Red Route One who broke last (far back) and then went on to finish 2nd ahead of Reicarnate.
At the 6F call (the second turn) apparently, things got really crowded with EVENT DETAIL getting the worst of it. He was not only wide but also experiencing traffic. I'm not familiar with his jockey Corrales but it could be he just chose to wait for another day.
I am in agreement that his Rebel race is not representative of his ability. Except maybe he needs some training on his start.
After looking at his TG#'s, I'm undecided as to whether his Rebel race was a bounce/distaste for surface or just an unfortunate trip. However, as you suggest his expected price next out would probably attract a bet from me especially if he's back on Artificial or even Turf.
After watching the replay video it is clear to me that Event Detail did not want to go around the turn and quit running when asked to turn left early in the turn.
My compliments on your attention to detail. I won't write him off just yet unless he goes in the slop again next out.
