HRTV said something is going on and was a bit cryptic--once International Star was scratched, they apparently scratched others on the card.

I watched the first episode and found it entertaining--certainly enough to want to see it again next week. There are some quirky/unique characters in the group and only half of the cast was introduced last night. John Conte is definitely a guy who you have to like and he knows the game as well as anyone out there.
I don't know if a program like this will generate any new fans or excitemen

agree--I am alive to the 7 and 8 in 12th and pretty much everyone in last race--Maker doesn't need any miracles with the 8--sheet number pretty strong there.
If I wasn't so stubborn and left Stephainie's Kitten out of my p5 and p4, would have been doing cartwheels at this point.

Horse whisperer and JB for sure--very happy for Shug--one of the biggest heartbreaks of my horse racing fan lifetime was Easy Goer not winning the Derby. Love it for Shug--truly class act.

What is there that's not to like about Jim Covello--he is a true gentleman on this board and as the Bloodhorse article states--the kind of owner that the game needs more of.
I think I can safely say that I speak for many in wishing Jim well--if he wins Saturday, I probably won't cash--but I will have a big smile on my face nonetheless.

Steve Haskin (who I enjoy reading and watching on Bloodhorse) wrote a column at the beginning of the week regarding wet-track possibnilities. He rated Mylute's pedigree best--just ahead of Palace Malice and Orb. Haskin is heavily into pedigrees going back a number of generations on both sides--a true old-school professor of the game.
He also stated that Lines of Battle would be worth a l

--This was a weak bunch and it didn't look like anyone wanted the distance. Paynter is a nice horse, but clearly was taking a huge step up into Grade 1 stakes company. Dullahan still hasn't won on dirt--the rest aren't even in the discussion of this 3 YO crop.
Johnny V. was hugely responsible for the win--similar ride to the one he gave in Rags to Riches' Belmont. It was

Unless something different is being said behind closed doors--Baffert claimed that he was happy with the way Bode was ridden.
Is there anybody who thinks that Bode would not have won hands down if Trinniberg was not in the race?
Smith set very fast early fractions--got a breather in the turn, opened up 5 on the field in the lane. He only got caught in the last 70 yards--Bode is clearly

Agree with your kudos to NBC--I thought the entire telecast was well done and informative. I truly enjoy the insight that Jerry Bailey brings to the table, and I also believe that Laffit III is a rising star. I have always enjoyed him on HRTV, and am glad that NBC used him in their broadcasts this year.
However--in the midst of all these human interest stories (Baffert's heart attack, P

No OP in Philly--add that to no GP, no SA, no GG, no LRL and no FG. There are hardly any tracks left to bet on in these parts.
This has turned into a joke/disgrace.
On the plus side, if one wants to travel to AC, the casinos are taking all of these tracks.

I bet in person or on line through Philly Park Phone Bet. Although SA was originally listed on their schedule for this week, they have updated their calendars and there is no FG, SoCal or NoCal racing listed. Once Calder closes, there will be no Florida racing (GP). For a sport that is already hemorrhaging, this type of insanity only further ruins the game.
In Pennsylvania, I seriously doubt

This does not bode well for the horse racing industry all over the world--Sheikh Mohammed owns Darley and is the leading partner in Godolphin..He owns Ballysheehan Stud in Ireland. He also owns Gainsborough Farms In Versailles, KY. He recently bought the Woodlands Stud empire, the largest in Australia, for $US 420 million. He makesStronach and Magna look like a drop in the bucket.

We learned that a 3 horse race could be somewhat exciting to watch, certainly not to bet on.....
We learned that a lot of people scratch their horses when Rachel or Zenyatta are entered in a race.....
We also learned that Jerry Moss is willing to ship out of California to take on Rachel at some point in the future--if it can be arranged.....

Check your local listings and set your DVR--TVG is running a 1 hour "Best of the Belmont" show--I believe it will be on again at 1:30AM Eastern Friday morning--as well as at 8:30AM Eastern Friday morning--it shows in the program listings as TVG Classic.
They show the actual race footage and call of approximately 15-16 Belmonts starting with Secretatriat in 1973 and ending with 2007-

from DRF article..."Arkansas has a zero-tolerance policy on naproxen, according to a commission official."
Isn't this the same Arkansas that wanted to put Larry Jones on the carpet for having a chiropractor work on one of his horses?
I get that tolerance of medication and performance enhancing drugs are a slippery slope--but the real problem is lack of uniform rules across t

I was watching the Sunday Hollywood card on TVG, and they announced she was going to be scratched because of a foot problem. Sorry--it was a field that she could have handled. The "wiseguy" horse is U.S. Ranger--they keep waiting for him to fire based on his B.C race against Goldikova--so far, he hasn't.

Agree with you he has a chance--The Roundhouse was a very talented 2YO before he got injured and had surgery, causing him to miss well over a year. I was at Monmouth when he broke his maiden, and it was incredible how much ground he closed in a 5F race--one of the most impressive 2YO races I have ever seen. The 2nd race back after the layoff at GP on 3/19 was also an impressive win--unfortunately

Any opinion on AllIcansayis Wow--she ran a 3 on synth in Europe--her winning race at Hol was the race in which she clipped heels and Talamo somehow gathered her up and won--visually, it was impressive. I don't know the figure she ran last out, but she is ML 20-1. Biancone seems to be winning a little after a very long dry spell upon completion of his suspension. I'd think you can use he

I will paraphrase Gary Stevens on the subject: It's 80-10-10....80% of the time, it's the horse...10% of the time a jockey can help the horse win, and 10% of the time, a jockey can cost the horse the race...

No need to get angry, P-Dub.....
I will clarify--in saying that MTB would have won with Borel, I'm thinking he wouldn't have been riding RA. Smith rode fine-there was no inside path in the stretch, and he saved ground throughout.
Imagine for a minute that RA had never been sold--there still would have been an exciting buildup to the Preakness, and certainly a better race for bett

Two quick observations:
1) Not enough praise has been given for Mine That Bird's great effort--closing from dead last at Pimlico on a dry track was impressive feat and validates his Derby IMO. If Calvin rode him yesterday, we'd be talking about a horse with a legit chance to sweep the Triple Crown.
2) Jess Jackson--a few weeks back, someone posted on here that Jackson was rum

I was betting Woodbine last night and noticed that Steve Asmussen's horses were in a detention barn prior to their races. I have tried looking for more info on this and can't find anything. Does anybnody know what the story is with this situation? Thanks.

I didn't bring up IEAH in my earlier post--but,since you have--at least the case can be made that IEAH knows when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em. I differ with your statement that they bought 2 "made" horses--what did Patena ever do as a 3yo? IEAH also bought Stardom Bound last Winter AFTER PASSING ON RACHEL ALEXANDRA due to the bone chip--and had enough sense to back h

Interesting double-standard to me....The NY tabloids slammed MTB's owner and Zayat for being so evil as to conspire against the wonder-filly--one paper called them pigs. Outside of the well-written piece by Randy Moss and the opinions on this site, few have taken Jess Jackson to task for the self-aggrandizing act of spending $10 million to grab this filly solely for the purpose of racing her

Borel is the king of ROI. During Friday's card on HRTV, Laffit Pincay III commented to Siegel after the rail ride on Miss Isella in race 7--boy, Jeff- Calvin Borel has something that I can't say on the air, because this is a family program.
BTW, TGJB's Derby analysis was spot-on with regards to Dunkirk's rider change from GG to Prado.

That card looks tough--you could start handicapping the $700K carryover for Wednesday at Churchill--the average field size before scratches is around 8--Hollywood's $97K pot has an average close to 10 per race. Maybe it is your destiny to hit both! Good Luck!
I'm already checking the weather for Wed, LOL.

Don't worry--the dosage people will re-classify MTB six months from now and claim Birdstone's lineage has a chef-de-race that they missed--then they will be able to say that the horse fit on dosage afterall. (don't laugh-they have done it in the past)
While we're at it, Beyer will go back and recalculate the Sunland Derby final BSF.

Andy Beyer wrote a vicious piece today on Washington Post and DRF about Mullins--maybe one of the most venom-filled (no pun intended) articles I have ever read on any subject. He takes us through Mullins' history and opines that the 7-day suspension in NY shows that the industry..."despite its posturing, isn't serious about policing itself"...
He brings up Dutrow last year
