forgive me if this is a dumb question... but who do you mean by 'sportsmen' here? I get the breeders, can't guess who the others are or for that matter why the term is set off with quotes ('so-called sportsmen'?)?

If I recall correctly, Dianne Feinstein was among the many who voted in favor of the disastrous resolution to go to war in Iraq in 2002.

Wohlers was supposedly the real trainer. No idea why Borel was being used as a front.

quick question (and apologies if this has already been discussed): Why is it that the computer guys would not be involved in the Pick 5? Is it based on the payoffs you're seeing/the data? Is it only a NYRAbets wager? Just curious where this comes from (I'm not doubting it one way or another, just wondering what the thoughts are on this). Thanks and a really interesting post.

Lots of people apparently just got canned at DRF: Watchmaker, Hovdey, Matt Bernier, Byron King... Hard to keep newspapers of any sort going today, but hard to believe the Form seems on life support.

The "ocean breeze" is a complete farce down there. Only comfortable place is in the sports book. This Saturday it'll be the steamiest down there since Pie-O-My ran for Tony and Richie.

... Who stiffed his editors and writers at Art in America, Interview, etc., but miraculously had the dough to buy Payson Park.

well, there's also a nice piece by Drape in the Times sports section on Kelly Rubley.
I'm more appalled by the NPR weekly sports segment I just listened to, which couldn't even pretend to show interest in the race and just dumped on any fans of the sport as worthless degenerates.

all kidding aside, be grateful it was a day without a single horse being vanned off. about the best outcome possible.

I know Win Win Win had a rough trip and all, but why is he 15-1 with a worse post than Vekoma (20-1), who handled him well in BG? Strange.

Smarty had four starts prior to the Derby: The Count Fleet, the Southwest, the Rebel, and the Arky Derby.

No worries on that score--I've dismissed Clocker ratings since Sea Hero's Derby and I'm not about to change my tune now. More just curious whether there was something out there I wasn't aware of.

What's the best go-to for CD clocker reports? I've never put a lot of stock in them but would love to play along from home this year.

The ill-fated Hello--he was a nice horse. That was a terrific Derby (and Preakness and Belmont). It looked like the Captain would get up at the wire after all but just missed. Capuano did a good job with him.

super dumb question, and I hope you'll pardon it, but what is the relation between Jason and John Servis. I know, they're brothers, but did they work together, do they come from a racing family etc? Just always been curious and haven't seen anybody ever comment on this. Is John still based at Parx? Is his win % in the same stratosphere as his brother's?
