There are two main reasons to "tap" a horse's joint: anesthesia or "blocking" for lameness diagnosis, and medicating the joint. To localize a lameness to a specific area or joint, nerve and joint blocks can be performed. A joint block involves injecting the joint with a local anesthetic like lidocaine to for desensitization. If the lameness resolve

Richie,
Secretariat's crop was 24,300 in 1970. 1973 had 26,800 foals and from there things took off and peaked in 1986(SS and Easy Goer) with 51,000 foals.
In the mid '60's less than 20 stallions covered more than 30 mares. We now have dozens that cover over 100.

I found this paragraph in the DRF interesting.
The error also had an impact nationwide, by delivering more revenue to out-of-state wagering sites and account-wagering operations that took the NYRA signal. Out-of-state betting operations keep the difference between the takeout and the amount they pay for the signal, and in this case, they would have retained an additional 1 percent of the betti

All horses in Breeeders' Cup Championship races will undergo blood sampling (for TCO2 analysis) approximately 15-30 minutes prior to their departure for the paddock. Owned by Jerry and Ann Moss, Zenyatta will remain in Southern California through the end of October, Shirreffs said Sunday. She is likely to have her workouts for the BC Classic at Hollywood Park and ship to Churchill Downs early on the week of the Breeders’ Cup.
“Not knowing what the weather will be , we’ll probably wait and go late,” Shirreffs said.

Net Pool Pricing
An Explanation of Net-Pool Pricing:
Historically, prices on pari-mutuel races have been calculated by dividing the GROSS amount of winning bets by the net pool. The net pool is the total amount of wagers reduced by the commission rate, or take-out. This process returns a fair price provided all wagers were made using the same take out. Not

Non-sweaters
Anhidrosis renders a horse unable to sweat, which is why horsemen coined the term non-sweaters for horses suffering from the condition. Although no one knows what causes horses to stop sweating, researchers theorize that sweat glands lose their ability to produce sweat when an excessive demand is placed on them, either over time or by one traumatic epi

Stream Cat won the Kentucky Cup Juvenile (gr. III) in 2005 and returned last year to finish third in the Classic behind Hard Spun and Street Sense. He won the Arlington Handicap (gr. IIIT) two starts back and was sixth, beaten just 4 1/2 lengths, last time out in the Arlington Million (gr. IT).
Trained by Patrick Biancone before those starts, Stream Cat came to Arnold’s barn in May from co-own

I think you underestimate the talents of the Forego team. He had two main jockeys,Heliodoro Gustines and Bill Shoemaker. My guess is your poor jockey comment was aimed at Gustines. I can't agree as he was aboard many graded winners in NY and was very good on the turf. I think he rode Stage Door Johnny among others. Forego had Sherrill Ward as his trainer at 3,4 and 5 and Frank Whit
