In the late Pick 5 at Belmont today the Will Pays for the winning combination were saying that the payout would be $1106 for 50 cents. The actual payout was $755.25. There were no late scratches nor any non-staters nor surface switches. It was the favorite and there had been a scratch in the last leg that was declared after the first leg, so there should have been some money from that horse, bu

Is this idea that all the top horses had been running under aggressive treatments where withdrawal was at the last possible moment and that in this race, they withdrew earlier with an extra margin so nobody would be this year's Ba

Did you mean the 10th? The Silks Run?
If yes, it looks to me like the horse previously had an issue racing without Lasix and then all of a sudden in his 6 year old year, he has no problem running

Saw some photos online of some old OTBs.....got very nostalgic for my youth spent in a variety of those locations. Question - I wasn't able to solve this - are there OTB locations outside the city still operating (i understand in NYC there are none). I would love to spend an afternoon at one just for kicks.
Also, does anybody remember when they changed from letters to numbers at OTB? I

Dear Powers That Be at Thorograph,
Santa Anita is currently running 6.5 furlong turf races in two configurations -- one is the about distance down the hill and the other is a flat non-approximated distance. Would it be possible to put an asterisk or something to make clear which figure is a down the hill figure and which is a flat? This can be done by looking at the form or by knowing what wa

Off the top of my head, the judge should say to Baffert's lawyer where were you when your horses weren't accruing points? Wasnt that the urgent emergency? If the issue was getting Newgrange into the Derby, you already knew of the harm as of January 1 when Newgrange was denied points.
Of course, Kentucky is the world of bizarro when it comes to law (see TGJB's Rachel Alexandra ca

I have had a case before Peter Sherwood who is the presiding officer on this case. Sherwood is an interesting guy. Based on the experience of a single case, he asks a ton of contextual questions trying to understand the bigger picture and that is way more important to him than nuts and bolts small details. He tends to throw out both sides' arguments and come up with his own solution. It i

I thought TGPS was terrific and the only reason I did it was because of you guys, not NYRA. If you pick another betting service that allows customers from NY state, I will move all my NYRA action to the new service provider. Let likeminded players know if some sort of pledge/endorsement will help. I am not sure NYRA knows how much you guys did for them. Anytime I had a NYRA customer service i

thank you, Tavasco and Molesap for the reality check. it is the classic paranoia where you are not sure whether they are really out to get you or not. I think Tavasco's explanation for the non-call is sadly probably right -- Irad on a 3-2 at GP can shoot somebody on Fifth Avenue and not get taken down.

in reading the official chart, the chart caller seemed to believe that the two horses were equally to blame. However, I do not see how you can watch the head on and come away with that conclusion. One horse left his lane to enter the other horse's lane. Only way you fault the second horse is to say it should have moved out of the way when the inside horse lunged at it rather than holding

I havent been following closely -- was the non-call in today's third normal business in FLA? I am prejudiced. The 1 horse was on the outside of the 7-5 favorite (the 10 horse). They dueled the whole stretch with 1 horse losing by about 1/4 of a length. Alvarado on the 1 claimed foul against Irad on the 10. The head very clearly showed that Irad on the 10 did not keep to his lane and 3 ti

They declared the race official - but they still have not declared an order of finish. Vic Stauffer announced that the race is official and he is 99% sure the order of finish was XYZ. Has anybody ever seen a race declared official without the order of finish being publicly declared?

the 50 cent parlay would have been $44,442 -- so getting the whole pool or splitting it amongst two winning tickets would have still paid better than the parlay. I guess that is the

Late Pick 4 at Oaklawn today had the following prices --
$18.20
$47.60
$21.60
$76.00
$2 parlay pays $177,768.
The $2 pick 4 paid -- $84,052.60 -- less than half the parlay.
i know that the pools are unconnected.
my question is -- does paying less than half the parlay in this case mean something suspicious is going on or is it just normal volatility that while unfortunate is n
