Belmont Sires - 1 year ago
(sorry I seemed to have posted a "dead" link). No secret that Tapit has been the dominant Belmont Stakes sire over the past few years, having produced four Belmont winners since 2014. Forte is by Violence. Violence's stallion page is linked above. Go to the Equibase statistical summary on that page and check out Violence's average winning distance numbers. I have great memories of Churchill Downs from long ago. Some of the best memories are softball games we used to play in the CD infield before the turf course was installed. AJ Foyt's annual backstretch barbecue on Derby Day. Being introduced to Nelson Bunker Hunt and his daughters in the clubhouse on the day Genuine Risk won the Derby. The Churchill Downs of the present has a lovely rby richiebee - Ask the Experts

Keen Ice by Curlin who is by Smart Strike. The Derby winner's dam is by Smart Strike. I think the breeders have a technical name for an equine so closely bred but it involves numbers and I find it confusing. When Tapit's final count as a stallion is in, I would like to look closely at Smart Strike's record as a stallion compared to Tapit's. Smart Strike was leading sirby richiebee - Ask the Experts

Fair Grounds La Derby Day entries are out. Seems like a card where one could bury oneself with overanalysis. My shovel is ready, will TGs be out tomorrow? Saturday AQ runs series of starter races, probably a good betting card and a decent way to funnel some cash to trainers who will not be favored by upcoming condition books so it seems like a good week to laissez les bon temps roulet .by richiebee - Ask the Experts

Wow I gotta print retraction/apology. Shame on me beating up on a fellow senior citizen like that. I would have never guessed DWL L/T win percentage could be more than 12% after as you point out a lot of sparse years. Thanks BB.by richiebee - Ask the Experts

Killebrew 256. There is a catcher named Ray Schalk who played early in 20th Century, considered best defensive catcher of period, 253. NY Fave Nick Zito, inducted to HOF in 2005, probably trending along the Lukas/Killebrew metric.by richiebee - Ask the Experts

JB I will stand pat with the one Lifetime Achievement Award, I do not know if I can handle added responsibility. Speaking about honors, and more seriously, a friend and I were discussing whether Kiaran McLaughlin should be inducted into the Thoroughbred HOF. Re: Stymie Stakes - 2 years ago
Okay Boscar's picture of David Monaci sets up a story. Background: Monaci was a mortgage broker/thoroughbred owner. I think Alan Seewald was his primary trainer. Monaci took out his trainer's license and had some success and saddled over 2000 runners. Monaci's run came to an end when he tried to subvert the policies and procedures of the state "spit" barn at Philadby richiebee - Ask the Experts

Morey has been training since 1997. Is this like "whack a mole"? I mention a trainer and everyone quick runs to Google him? Have some real fun and Google Burton Sipp or David Monaci.... This was Morey's only medication violation in 25 years of training? (and note the Paulick Reporters' had to issue a "Correction"--Morey was NOT accused of "milkshaking&qby richiebee - Ask the Experts
Re: Stymie Stakes - 2 years ago
Trainer Morey an interesting study with a 42% strike rate in stakes races (sample:19). The More(y) interesting runner to me is Rock Sugar (Race 6), first off claim from Mott. Sugar was not so sweet, breaking his maiden only after being gelded and dropped in for a tag in eighth career start. Shows company lines to Waxman and Risk Taking, also in on today's card. Morey is 33% off the cby richiebee - Ask the Experts

I guess I can stay awake for one more post. I have abdicated the throne. I am neither the King of Nothing nor the King of Anything. See you in the mutuel pools. With some of my recent wagers, you should be happy to have my company there. I am the contrarian who thinks these are the Golden Days of Racing, but I guess it is more fun and fashionable to "Quit" playing the game, orby richiebee - Ask the Experts

Yeah lets make Kinchen the big criminal here. Lets CLEAN UP HANDICAPPING TOURNAMENTS!!, while the Rules of Racing and the enforcement of such are a total joke. OK. My new pet peeve is "We are family racing" at NYRA, where one day in the near future at NYRA you might have a six horse field with mounts ridden by Dylan Davis, the two Davis sisters, Dylan's brother-in-law Trevorby richiebee - Ask the Experts

Re: Pegasus World Cup - 2 years ago
JB really the problem is that some of the runners in North America who might be able to compete at equal weights are nowhere to be found. To twist your words a bit, when you have a HOY running against a NW3LT, weight might be the only way to level the playing field. To go back 40 years and more (sorry) the two greatest horses I have seen--Forego and Spectacular Bid--distinguished themselby richiebee - Ask the Experts

In days of very old this race would have been more interesting...if run as a handicap: Knicks 130 Life 127 Sir Winston 118 All Others: Between 112-114 If Flightline had entered,125 And yes this would have made the race more interesting.by richiebee - Ask the Experts

Boscar: Somewhere in the archives I have a Condition Book from Delaware Park, 1986. There is indeed a page that lists all riders with their weights, agents and agent's phone numbers. Some of the names: Rick Wilson (agent Al Dellape, who also had Mary Ann Alligood's book), Julie Krone (Ken "Snake" Cooper, agent) and Chris Antley (Drew Mollica).by richiebee - Ask the Experts

Shan: Article says he trained after hanging it up, 10% winners over 1500 starters; his wife passed away about a year ago and I guess sometimes this hastens ones demise. The Paulick article does not mention if Gall was a "natural lightweight", like Pat Day, who never had to diet or reduce to make weight, but I would imagine this would be the case given Gall's longevity.by richiebee - Ask the Experts

Sad Day for Southern Illinois Racing - 3 years ago
While the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce and shareholders of AMBev are ecstatic at Fairmount's recent press release, another one of the greats in St Louis area thoroughbred racing has passed. Re: Rice suspended - 3 years ago
Johnnny I think some of those who passed info along have already been suspended/fined/fired. I wonder how NYRA feels about this. The woman is a year round presence at the NY tracks, fills a lot of races, and usually has a stable that contains a mix of claimer/state bred/stakes horses to fit the condition book. Here is a hypothetical. Take the agent for the top rider at the Aqueduct winteby richiebee - Ask the Experts
