Re #2 Junonia, re his July 8 Suffolk effort . . . understand that race was run without employing the normal starting-gate apparatus . . . just another challenge for fig-makers . ..

Maybe I shouldn't be, but just a little surprised . . . since the broad wiseguy consensus is that the length of the sentence appeared to be largely the crystallized opinion of one guy in a position of authority . . .

Posted at Equibzse . . . nice-sized fields . . . alas, the nice grass route for older NW3OTHER didn't fill . . . among the saddening casualties of a halved foal crop . . .

Didn't buy it, but had the figs, and came to essentially the same conclusions on the second half of the card (the half which mattered, to me). In 5th, Axtell was about as insane a price as you'll ever see at NYRA, and whaled W/P, but inexplicably missed the ex. My bad. Classic example of the locals dissing out-of-towners bearing legit credentials . . . gl to all.

. . . on a day when Ortiz was essentially on a fill-or-kill (as they say on Wall Street) mission. Not so pretty, if you were aware of that, going in.

At least one gaming-industry site posted that they'd seen an announcement from Billy Hill that they'd open with -110.
If they don't pile any other hidden fees on top of that, they should do OK on the baseball. Some of the more substantial Vegas houses live on baseball at -05. They're just happy to keep the seats warm until September.

Only the ninth is currently scheduled to stay on at Belmont -- and they reserve the right to take that off when they reconsider the situation, around noon . . .
