I think Rosario is at the top of his game right now, but sometimes his rides end up as all or nothing propositions. Still, I suspect he fits this horse, so I have no problem with the switch.
I agree that Mckinzie looked dull last out, but most services do not show a large decrement in his speed figure from that race if any at all (in fact Equibase has it as his fastest race – ever), but visu

I am sure this has been discussed before, but why no Chad Brown or Todd Pletcher at KD? Up until last year, Saratoga was the Chad and Todd show, but now it is mostly the Chad show as he finished with 41 winners, but Todd was still a solid second at 19 wins. I know that TAP has been traditionally thought of as a trainer who excelled with juveniles, but he has not been devoid of turf starters. In f

This is awesome - I LOVE it when you post. Easy to follow with data to back up your contentions along with some conjecture and caveat. Thanks.

Or you could try to get the NYRA promotion back... I know there are a ton of other considerations, but the NYRA credits have been the most useful. Don't get me wrong, I think they are all great and from a punter's point of view what we get through the promotions is an excellent deal, so keep them coming, but if you could swing the NYRA one that would be awesome.

Yep! Bounce indeed. So the winner of the first snuck through one the rail and drew away, but Promises Unfulfilled, Separationofpowers and Shancelot all were speed on the rail and none ran to odds. Hmmm.....

Only a few races in, but the track looks fair on both surfaces. The main looks very fast and I wonder if Shancelot shades 1:20...it is a strong possibility.

Sounds like you had a great experience despite all of the complaints of the changes at Saratoga - it is mostly the people that make that kind of experience.

Starting in 2017, Baffert is 11-6-1-1 at Saratoga - if you back to 2015, he is 17-8-3-2. More recently, he was 6-3-0-0 last year. So no matter what you look at in the past 5 years, he is hitting around 50% shipping into Saratoga.

Someone just sent me this regarding the outcome of the inquiry in the Haskell. I must say that the outcome was determined VERY fast - 23 minutes for the Derby, what seemed about 23 seconds for the Haskell. The video was shown just a few times, so for me it was inconclusive based on where they were on the turn. Not saying anything one way or another but here are some interesting tidbits regarding

It seems that for a number of Triple Crown races after, once a big number pops in the Derby, you hardly ever see long prices. I think the smallish price on Everfast was much more a reflection on that than his actual form.

That is what I saw - so why didn't they? NBC said the Inquiry sign was taken down very quickly, so they obviously did not think it was any kind of an issue. It is possible (likely) that he reared because he was being held - look at the reaction of the guy in gate. He was ticked because he knew he messed up.

From Brisnet on March 24th....
"Trainer Mark Casse was upbeat Sunday about the Kentucky Derby (G1) status of Saturday’s beaten Louisiana Derby (G2) favorite War of Will, who never factored after taking a few awkward strides in the initial stages.
The 4-5 choice following victories in the first two Fair Grounds preps, the Lecomte (G3) and Risen Star (G2), War of Will had his hind end

Some possibly relevant trends:
In that last 56 Preakness runnings, horses that ran in the Derby accounted for slightly less than half of the entrants (49.1%), yet accounted for 82.1% of the wins and 76.8% of the exacta finishes. That means that horses that had not run in the Derby before the Preakness accounted for only 17.9% of the winners, yet were over 50% of the horses that entered. In ter

Word is that x-rays were negative and Servis said "He got beat up a little bit in the Kentucky Derby but we're fortunate it was nothing too serious. He just needs some time. I will let him tell me (when he's ready to race again)." In the meantime, Gary West said the Haskell is their goal at this point, but he may get a prep race prior to that. He will be at Monmouth in the int
