Paulick says he is done for the year. Easy to blame the owners (I do). I am sure Art Sherman is sick. Great ride by a very good horse. Run destroyed by idiot owners.

Art Sherman must be sick having these yahoos manage his horse for him. In fact, Art isn't even training the horse -- some guy from England is. Now, they say there is a problem and his regular vets are not even there. Of course, I would not be surprised if the owners decided not to run (and he is actual

No show betting in the 3rd with a 6 horse field. Never saw that before. Competitive Edge at 2-5 bombed.

Sad sight for me. Spent hundreds of days at Hollywood Park. Many great times there. First date with my wife of 30 years -- "so, lets go for a nice lunch with a view of lakes and flowers... ." She fell for my love of horse racing. Raced many horses there. Won my first race and even a Grade 1. Horse that hooked me before I purchased any was Judge Angelucci. Sad for me to see this.

Would be interesting to know what Baffert's instructions will be. The race strategy will be his alone -- and not the owner's or jockey's call. He won't want their trips to compromise each other but also won't want to overtly set it up for AP -- and then ha

I agree with all of this. Great observations. 3/5 shots are supposed to be sure things. AP isn't but still hard to dismiss (but I will) because he will be 3/5.

I am not really being critical of Espinoza -- I just find it ironic that Baffert took Espinoza off of a Derby contender in 2003 for this reason. I suppose Espinoza did what he thought he needed to do with Kafwain the same he believed he needed to do with Pharaoah.
My immediate interest is will this have an effect on Pharaoh in the Preakness and I believe it will.

Espinoza getting some bad press for his use of the whip on Pharaoh and not just from PETA. Word is he hit him 32 times in the Derby (I didn't count but that is what is reported). Interesting that Baffert took Espinoza off of Kafwain in 2003 after the Louisiana Derby and before the Santa Anita Derby for exactly the same thing -- "Espinoza hit my horse so hard and so many times... ."

The race track in Kenya was really something. Jockeys were all 6 foot, ~110 pounds and of course black. The entire visual scene was very different. What I remember the most was a wine event with pretty high end German wines. I found out later that not only did locals visit the once a week race event but so did a huge local German community. They pretty much made up the Turf Club. Didn't bet

You seem to know everything about AP. Then, you must know that he is the only horse in Baffert's barn that runs with earplugs and that is because noise frustrates him. He is a very nice horse but like all other horses -- is not perfect and can be beaten under the right circumstances.
Also, don't believe everything you hear out of any trainer's mouth. Especially in the next week

I saw the subject title and thought you were referring to the Patriot's report that was just released. (I know this is a racing board but we also love sports).

He may win going backwards. His competition will surely be weaker than in the Derby. He will be odds on to win. But, this will be his third race in five weeks. His health is also very questionable (a couple of known problems) -- especially running back in two weeks off a very hard race -- ran the whole way and gutted it out.
Baffert is a master poker player so it won't be possible to dis

He may be the second coming of Seattle Slew like his owner contends but he will be the favorite and deserving of a few knocks being thrown his way --
1) No Kentucky Derby winner has ever won with a misspelled name (I think) -- "Pharaoh" not Pharoah.
2) No Kentucky Derby winner has ever had Storm Cat blood.
3) No Kentucky Derby winner has ever won with all previous races having und

Regarding pace -- now that American Pharaoh trailed one horse named Bridget's Big Luvy (!) at 38-1 in a first quarter in 22.3 -- he is now a declared rater by Baffert and many others and does not need the lead. I don't believe it. I agree Dortmund will try to get the lead and will probably succeed in very fast fractions. He wants the lead and cannot risk getting stopped along the way be
