I read the Navarro indictment. The doping and subsequent death of XY Jet is just sick. Massive heart attack from all of the bullshit being pumped into the horse.

My experience is the good East coast trainers (Chad, Todd) work 4 furlongs reasonably slowly with a big gallop out. The good West coast trainers (Baffert, O'Neill) work 5-6 furlongs fast with a moderate gallop out. I agree when something is different (good or bad) that is a tip off.

True. Testing my Google skills --
Bute, short for phenylbutazone, is probably the most widely used drug in horses. Bute is an inexpensive, highly effective treatment for inflammation and pain that can be injected intravenously or given orally to horses as a powder or paste. Bute works by inhibi

Where are similar voices out of Santa Anita? Either management or the trainers themselves.
Clenbuterol is a synthetic stimulant (not a steroid), with similar short-term effects to other stimulants (such as amphetamines or ephedrine). These include increased heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and metabolism. In fact, it was first developed to promote mass gain in animals. Long-term use in

You are correct. Rain literally just stopped. Pretty heavy rain (at least for us) and even some hail. They predict dry weather until Tuesday -- in fact 70's this weekend. I agree a good call. I also heard the racing secretary predicted very short fields coupled with lousy attendance. Two good reasons alone to call it off.

My take on Chad is he seems to focus on future breeding values for his horses. That is why he goes after Grade 1 wins and sometimes Grade 2's. The $1,000,000 race on Saturday is "only" a Grade 3 as are the other Graded races that day. To me, I would go after the money but Chad always has odds-on horses in higher graded races anyway so I don't think he really cares.

And, I have absolutely no quarrel with what you say. You reference "rational business perspective." Unfortunately, that is lacking in the sport of horse racing. I guarantee you that Belinda and the Stronach Group executives know a lot more than I do. There is so little transparency. I was able to find a list of the names of the first 20 or so horses that died and most were homebreds --

I just got back from the Epsom Derby Festival -- only 2 days of racing. I also went to the Royal Ascot Festival -- only 5 days of racing. Our American racing is year round. I predict in 20 years our racing (if it still exists) will be much different.
For instance the cost to train and care for a horse in Southern California is ~$3,500 per month. That training bill is the same for a $10,000 cl

All of us are reading everything printed about the horse deaths and Hollendorfer being banned at Santa Anita and Golden Gate. Anything I say can and will be criticized because there are many who want horse racing to permanently end -- others who just want the problems fixed (including me) and yes, even some who do not believe there is a problem.

Only a guess at this time on my part but with the Breeder's Cup looming in early November my guess is they will shut down the show for at least 3 weeks and probably many more. That may seem way off on the calendar but not so fast. If they decide they
