Hard to take anyone serious who would skip watching racing on Preakness Day to watch cars make left hand turns ;-)
Are you rooting for STP, Viagara, or Home Depot? :-)

So the advantage of a path would be about eight feet... it that your distance approximation?

How much do you read into the fact that Lael Stables felt it was necessary to enter Showing Up in addition to Barbaro. They already have the undefeated winner of the Florida Derby who is likely to go off 2nd favorite, but still feel the need to rush a very young, inexperienced horse into the field.
Was this done in order to keep out Sunriver or is their confidence in Barbaro a bit shaken?

I speak on here like I would speak to my friends... insane is not literal. Anyway, by your standards, Stew Elliot has two TC wins... sure as heck wouldn't put him on my Classic horse either.

I spent 2004 at Bally's/Paris and paid something like $40 for a seat in their ballroom. It was set up with all the food and drink you could polish off, a big screen TV plus other monitors around the room. A good number of tellers were there and never had to wait in line for anything. Wasn't at all crowded, easily my best Derby Day experience.

Throw out Barbaro's sub-13 final 1/8 since it was on turf... whole different ballgame. Add Bob And John who ran a 12 3/5 final 1/8 in the Sham.
On top of that... SNS has the fastest final 1/8 with a 12 1/5, a very fast 24 3/5 final 1/4 mile in the Miracle Wood, and a stunning 30 3/5 for the final 5/16 in the Gotham. This is a horse in the zone... IMO, he's one length away from bein

I found the video of the race which also has the call. No indication who the announcer is or for whom he works.
If you want a copy of the file, I'll email... it's only 1 Mb.

I have an audio file of the 1979 Blue Grass. Four-horse field... he sat in last around the first turn, swept to the lead on the backside, and drew away to win by five lengths (as called by the Keeneland track announcer). I've never heard of the other three horses in the race (Pianist, Bishop's Choice, and Alot Of Gold).

The Euros didn't run poorly at GP... that is a myth that somehow continues to perpetuate. Just like in 2003 when the BC was at SA on tight 7f turf course, an extra 3,000 miles of travel to the west coast, and a 100 degree afternoon. All the euros did was sweep the Filly & Mare Turf, take first and third in the Turf and win the Mile.

Charm - you hit it right on the head. I had significantly cut back my wagering there the past few years and now just don't play at all. However, I was on business in Tennessee on Ashland Day and was able to get up there for the last six races. It is a stunning place... and the scenery on a sunny, perfect day, well, could only be described as Twin Peaks.
Great place to visit, but I woul

Only turf races during the month of June will be run at the Meadowlands, the remainder of the Monmouth meet (July through September) will have turf racing on their own course. There is a new chute allowing for turf sprints up to 5 1/2 furlongs and I have personally spoken to people who have seen the course and claim it is absolutely beautiful. If sacrificing a month of turf racing for a new pri

Makes sense...
Vivendi Universal sold its cable and movie properties (Universal Pictures, Sci-Fi Channel, and USA Network) to GE/NBC.
Now if NBC would only sell Mike Battaglia to some racing outfit in South America we would have ourselves a good telecast. With HRTV and TVG I don't have to stomach this garbage anymore.

My sob story... as many of us did... I HATED LITF and loved Artie... so I decide to make Artie my key for the day. I have no idea who is going to win the sprint, so I go ALL/AS/with Ashado, Happy Ticket, Stellar Jayne and Society Selection for $5 for a total of 11 x 1 x 4 = $220. Will pays after Artie range from $880 for Ashado to $2200 for Society for $1. Of course, we know the story.

Three races carded on the turf at BEL today, two being MSW. Thankfully, they are all OFF and dirt is GOOD. Three races on turf tomorrow, again two MSWs.
The problem with the rating of U.S. turf courses is that it is subjective. There should be penetrometer readings taken at various points on the course and reported to the public.

Intercontinental is going to be double digit odds? She is undoubtedly the best F&M miler in this country. Her full sister is Banks Hill who never raced more than a mile before destroying everyone by 5 or 6 lengths at 10f.
She's the fastest horse who is going to be on the rail and losing no ground on the lead.

As far as judging Euros on TG figs, I have relatively low confidence. Sacrilige to say this... oh well. I could fill a binder with the sheets of supposedly slower Euro horses who have won and/or run well in BC races as well as Graded races around the country. Just like Beyer had no success making figs on Australian racing, I don't think you can use the method TG or any other fig makin ser

Geez, what an apologist. How about thinking of the other jocks, horses, owners, trainers, and gamblers who could be affected by an inebriated jockey. What the hell is wrong with you? Suppose your assumptions are correct and he had "a couple of glasses of wine" with dinner. A 100 lb. person with two drinks in one hour has a blood alcohol content of .075! This is OK? Oh, so getting
