Good to see several of you and thanks for spending some time chatting and laughing with Nancy and me. She loved her first trip to Saratoga. Frank/Bob - you left too early Sunday. I was buying the drinks on the pik 5...a few were still around, met a few friends at Siro's from Gulfstream, and those of you familiar with 10 Palms know Tony, of course.
Best day in may moons. We'll be ba

You are correct on both counts regarding Gall. I wonder all the times he won 7 races on a card if the total payout on the win pool was $40!?
No mention in today's P-D what he did after retiring, nor cause of death.

Arriving on the 5th. out on the 9th. Not sure I fit into the "birds on the bat" shirts anymore, but I'll find you all in usual spot. Looking forward to it.

great article, thanks for sharing. Reminds me of the trainer who disappeared from GP with an owner a few years back - they are still around, but in another place. Constant announcer phrase "claimed by" for "...."
and then won next out...

Can't wait to get up there. Girlfriend has never been. She's in for a treat, such a great atmosphere. Love SAR after the races are done as well...

Bet - assumed since you can take in coolers it was a state park. With everything else taxed to death in the tri-state, that's quite a perk from those $8 beers. No wonder there's never a line...

Well, I'm coming up for the Whitney weekend. Embassy Suites Wednesday - tuesday. Also heading to Pacific Class a few weeks later.
Question for you bob - if Saratoga is indeed a state park, how do they get away charging anything, much less $240/table?

No doubt the most clever post of the year...still chuckling.
Let me just add that "none of the 3 were retired early"...

While the field size is excellent all day, the competition is terribly narrow.
Grass races for most who have never seen the grass, nor bred for it, could provide big pays - but by accident only. I really don't see a race with more than 3-4 serious players in fields of a dozen...or does that mean I've become a good handicapper?
Fairmount, don't answer!

Those are great stories, thanks for sharing...that is about the time I got into racing myself so I can imagine what fun that was to win, or sell for huge profit.

I'd suggest this:
I use Bris and/or DRF to complement TG. Look at what # they gave and find similar in same race that TG DID have a # on. Not perfect, but what else?

Jerry, I too completely dismiss DEL/PRX and dont' bother to include in any serious handicapping whatsoever.
I don't recall ever wishing I hadn't.

My first equine fav was Cigar. He was, for me, The Beatles of the sport. Crowds were wild about him. I've not seen anything like it since. Last time live was Arlington Park - this during Cubs/Cards weekend mind you (and you know I'd not miss that for anything...except Cigar. Fairmont might?). visiting him later at the KY horse park, he didn't look great, and I was surprised h

well, yes that is a great story. Certainly memorable! As a lifelong Irish fan I was really perplexed by the overall lack of press around this great legend's death. We've certainly sold millions of magazines with the covers of less.
What people may not know (those under 65) - he's in the HOF collegiately as a QB, in the Pro football HOF as a running back. He also kicked field g

as they announced no turf races a few days back, save for the feature yesterday and today, is the author still advocating best bet if no longer on turf?
as we knew in advance, and its published this am...why post turf pik?

Calling for rain most of the day till late afternoon. 90% 1-3pm. Pity - it's a helluva card.
Surprised TG did not do a Woodbine analysis today. I'll have some thoughts to post in a bit.

When I live in Chitown during the 90s and went to my first horse race at ARL (baseball players strike), I watched a guy stand in the ring every race and did nothing more than look at the hoofs (hooves?). Mark his program, make his bets. My wife and I referred to him as "the weapon" to support any horse we liked. He was really good. If he's reading this, sorry to look over your

The Thoroquick has incorrect post positions and wrong # of horses. There are only 9 entered, and # 1 is Hoyam, not # 2...just fyi if you haven't caught it yet.

agreee with all these POV. But yesterday I got real busy and missed his $38 winner, which should have been free money for those paying attention. All the money is green, regardless of the venue.

I'm not keeping up with the pools, but it must be awesome for just the 3 tracks. I heard on radio OAK was up 144% handle last weekend.
Hope all are doing well, I'm alive in OAK pik 5 and GP pik 4. 4/5 in early pik 5, not much to show just yet. The consolation paid half my bet, so...
knocked out of pik 6 at GP in let 2 after boasting to Roger I'm in...serves every redboarded
