Richie, might I be so bold as to suggest, as an alternative to Saratoga, you check out Finger Lakes Race Track, conveniently located off the NYS Thruway, and a short drive from all the charms, wonders, wineries, micro-breweries, distilleries and bucolic charm of the Finger Lakes, themselves. You will not be gouged by overpriced restaurants nor miss a dinner reservation because you couldn't

It was a rather fortuitous turn of events that allowed this combination to hit the board. The 4 horse was clear on the lead in the stretch, and looked like a very likely winner when he bolted sideways, interfering with the 134-1 shot who then got moved up to fourth.

Thanks, ill-bred for posting that. The section on CRW clarifies many of the issues for me. Basically, it seems like they have built a better mousetrap in doing some of the things all the rest of us attempt to do. The problems appear to be related to the potential for diminished value that won't be known until the totes shut down, and the effect it has on public perception. It feels some

I'm probably pretty dense about this stuff, but it's not clear to me why this would be analogous to the Fantasy wagering currently under legal scrutiny. I don't follow exactly how they work this to their advantage, but I've never really studied or thought about it in detail.

Here's the chart.
I guess people are going to see what they want to see. I've been around Finger Lakes long enough to know that no pool is too small for someone to try to tilt. But, you're not going to have ten guys walking out with suitcases full of money. Maybe Mathcapper can tell us if any of these pools look hinky.

Agreed. Many of those places, and especially Saratoga, are gateway drugs to the sport. They provide an "experience" for those in the maiden ranks. I was out at Turf Paradise in late March (the day that they had &q

I will, on occasion, track double probables, and I did so today. The money came in on this horse in waves. Nothing else remotely close to it, the rest of the day. Turned out to be useful information, but that is n

And yet one more assertion.
We're all capable of making spelling and grammatical errors, so I don't usually correct, but if one is going to question another's intelligence, it is particularly bad form to do so with spelling and/or punctuation errors.

NYRA reports that 5th race, today, is off the turf, and 1st (jumpers) is cancelled. Not sure if that impacts post times.

Nice recap, Sean, and congrats on defending your Open title. JB had some really insightful "bet againsts" yesterday. I just wasn't smart enough to land on the right "bet fors."
The weather was great Friday, even if the golf wasn't. As I predicted, I was a "short horse", opening up with two pars, and then meeting my Waterloo (emphasis on "water&q

I was on the 8:15 and you couldn't spit without hitting someone with a Racing Form in his hands. Unfortunately, some of them did. I was looking around for you, and then realized it was 8:15 an

Frank, sorry I missed you and the other T-Gen's yesterday, and even sorrier that I'll miss you on the weekend. When you're up there with the Vermont ex-hippies and Deadheads, be sure to look carefully at any mushroom toppings they put on the pizza. If you're back on Monday, I'll definitely stop by. Yesterday, I was the guest of friends in the new "sports bar."

And if you can figure out a way to get Den's Legacy into your Pick-4 after listening to Maggie, one leg in, you can tell me what that is, too.

You should come up with T-shirts, too. Have a pocket in front for pens, tickets, etc., and a small T-G logo on the pocket, and on the back it can say something like "Thoro-Graph: meeting all your handicapping needs for ___ years." Throw in nice track graphics. I could post

If Kay owned the Cubs, he would tear out the ivy on the outfield walls and replace it with billboards, and bulldoze the bleachers and put in luxury suites.
You don't screw with tradition when it's part of the reason people come there in the first place.

Richie, being a cooler aficionado, you might remember that there was a year (at least one) when they were banned, though I don't remember the specifics. One of my compadres with whom I've been attending the Spa for thirty years, has had the same cooler for the duration. I'm convinced it will go into the Hall of Fame, upon his passing, though if they can configure a way to get it

One thing that is being lost (in addition to trees) in this recent spate of Spa changes is a sense of egalitarianism that permeated at least part of the facility. As a denizen of the backyard, I was, on occasion, annoyed by the "tourists" and the amusement park vibe, but at the same time, I appreciated the fact that the sport and experience I love was able to be shared by people other
