Since the Autotote contest is scheduled to take place before Tour sign-ups start on 2/15, contestants will be given the opportunity to sign something indicating that they plan to sign up for the Tour. Anyone who signs and finishes in the top 20 will be awarded points in accordance with a breakdown you will all have an opportunity to review very soon.
Also, for the 2/2 Canterbury and 2/9 Lone

I too would like to thank Tg for the contest sheets, which Bill did his usual good job of making sure everyone received in a timely manner. It was nice to see Bill in good health and in good spirits. Sign ups start on 2/15, and additional details on the Tour will indeed be available soon. Don't hold me to this, but in all liklihood JB and anyone else who wants to limit their participation to

It’s good to hear you’re ready to take the plunge SC. One thing I’m pretty sure you’ll find is that competing in contests will improve your cash game considerably.
It's the longest of shots, obviously, but it's at least conceivable that someone could win one of the $1 million bonus qualifying contests, finish on top in the Tour standings, and then make it a sweep at next year's

That must mean that Bill is doing better, which is very good to hear. This news is sure to please quite a few contest regulars, and I'm already looking forward to seeing him. Pass along my best wishes.

What your friends are telling you about contests may or may not be true, depending on the format. There are a fair number of contests which are designed to favor those skill is the ability to pick winners, including short price winners.
We're going to have to agree to disagree on caps, and not just because the statistics are on my side. To my way of thinking, it doesn't make sense t

And now you know someone who was also at Kee the entire meet, except for the Mth overlap days, & based on personal experience, believes just the opposite of what you heard from someone else. For what it’s worth, my opinion is that as a matter of fundamental fairness, one who does not have first hand knowledge should not repeat a statement of this nature, especially in a public forum in which

Hats off to the Weekend Warrior for qualifying for the NHC yet again at Cby's always tough Breeder's Cup Ultimate Handicapping Invitational, a cash betting contest where players are required to bet at least half of their bankroll, which starts at $1k, on a minimum of 6 of the 8 BC races. Way to go Jamie!!!
P.S. The name of the fellow who won last year's NHC is Stanley Bavlish

You're nothing if not modest, nc. Not even an "I told you so", let alone any smack talk, when we ran into Mr. Brown at the post-race party, although it's entirely possible those photos you took might come in handy some day. With the exception of your hilarious Stronach impression, the rest of what may or may not have been said or happened at that party & afterward is a lit

Your spelling looks about right JB, but you’d have to add 10 or more exclamation points at the end to approximate the volume of the sound I made at Kee yesterday when Thief stole the feature. His win gave Maddyfine a 3rd of 287 finish in yesterday’s contest which, in addition to cash, earned her a spot in Kee’s end of the season “Tournament of Champions” competition. Coming as it did off her 1st

Thanks guys, and tell your father I said hello Jamie. I have an excuse, such as it is, for confusing Paul, who I've never met, and Bill, who I don't really know but have at least met & would recognize. At the Beu contest last Dec, a fellow who told me he was sitting next to Paul at Autotote offered to introduce me, only to lead me to ncTony who, I'm pretty sure, doesn't lo

Thanks nc, but all of the credit for the sheet reads goes to you & Henry, particularly when it comes to the 9-1 winner of the 7th at Dmr, which was the race where I used my last optional play. Henry was ahead of me at the time, and even though he liked the horse as well, suggested I put the horse on my entry since: he had three bullets remaining, there were still three races left at Dmr, &

...should, in fairness, be considered along with the original criticism. Below is the complete text of a press release which I received from Ellis this afternoon.
Henderson, KY (July 11, 2007) – After scratching from Wednesday’s entries at Ellis Park, track president Ron Geary announced he had privately purchased 17-year-old thoroughbred Alpena Magic from his owner Kenneth Robinette.

About six months or so ago I was writing an article on Ellis and at the end of a long conversation, the new owner asked me this question: If limited to just one item, what single change would be most important to players? It turned out that my suggestion of a dramtically lower takeout for either one race each day, or one entire card each week, was very similar to the response he got when he asked

It was nice seeing you & Miles, as well as all of my other contest compatriots. TG does deserve a great deal of praise, especially for the way they got each of the files up literally minutes after the cards were drawn. Alas, I don't even have any good excuses for my poor performance, which did not detract from another terrific time. The NHC truly is the place for all serious handicappers

I echo ncTony's sentiments. Will try to address some of what has been posted in this thread, but it may not be until after I spend a few days in the hospital recovering from exhaustion. Fun, yes, but even more tiring than I remembered, & day 1 hasn't even started yet.

Nick: Hope you enjoyed a raucous bacchanalia last night. My question is what led you to the conclusion that firster & 23-1 cap horse Bye Now "should be ready" in SA's 3rd yesterday. I used a variety of handicapping materials to look at the race in some detail & couldn't find the horse based on works, pedigree, trainer stats, etc, etc. Nice call, glad you survived the o

I'm not sure I follow the logic of putting Judy, a friend, in the middle of what has the potential of turning into another dust up along the lines of the rather bizarre debate a few yrs ago over whether or not Steve Wolfson, Jr. used tgraph when he won the nhc. For those of you who recall, the thing I found inexplicable about that debate, which also applies here, as pointed out by ncTony, is

The Brisnet library contains two interesting articles on polytrack, by Tim Holland & Rich Nilsen, which discuss the breeding angle. Both are astute cappers & Tim, a former farm manager who is originally from England, knows more about breeding than any other handicapper I've met.

I missed the drf feature on Patti & Brooke, so if you have a link I'm interested.
The D. Wayne story for some reason made me think of an incident which is entirely unrelated. The vast majority of horseplayers are nothing if not single- minded, & there's an unwritten but pretty strict rule at every track/otb that all discussion, & everything else for that matter, should be

Congrats to ncTony, who qualified for the nhc today with a strong finish in a very tough contest, which included hitting the winner of the last race, the Oak Leaf Stakes at SA. The horse in question is the appropriately named Cash Included, which paid $29 & change to win. In the opinion of the writer, ncTony definitely belongs, & can be counted on to be a formidable competitor come Jan. W

At the press conference yesterday, G.D. announced that one thing Kee will be doing that is not being done at WO is to display,on the toteboard, immediately after the race, the exact distance traveled by each horse. Perhaps I'm still smarting over the last at Bel this past Sat, but it's hard not to imagine, if & when the technology makes its way to NY, what those numbers are going to

Based on what I've seen & heard, I'm not sure that it makes sense to assume that all polytrack surfaces will be the same, and/or that a particular polytrack surface will remain the same over time. The Kee training track is noticeably different(much tighter) now than when it was 1st installed a couple of yrs ago, and a Kee exec who should know advises that there will be differences b

Although he offers no explanation for the practice, Bruno DeJulio, citing Bruce Headley as an example, claims in his book that certain trainers do not want their horses to gallop out, & specifically instruct their riders to pull up right after the wire. You might want to ask Dan Hendricks, who is today's "Talking Horses" guest, whether he is opposed to gallop outs & if so,

Been there, still haven't done that, but at least I'm making progress. If Jean-Luc gives 17-1 Lutay Lay one of the worst rides in history in Aqu4, instead of the worst ride in history, & doesn't lose 2nd by a neck, or if 5-1 Rich Fantasy, the shortest price I took in the contest, wins the head-bob in OP9, or if...
