Chowder,
Re/ Belmont tickets
First live Belmont was Canonero. Took my Dad the next year (his birthday was June 5 so always close enough)....and it quickly became an annual family affair. As a tribute to family members that have passed, I have not missed a live Belmont for some 40+ years.
Have had parties of up to 20 and, lately, just myself or a few locals that I travel with from Pa.

Since I am LMAO at this discussion and since I have witnessed similar events in my youth, I thought I would relate a favorite story from my Junior year in college.
Had been playing horses since my father and grandfather (a Mahattanite and Staten Islander) took me to the Big A at age 7. First Landing remains an all time childhood favorite as he often appeared on Race of the Week circa 1960.

Frank,
Best of luck to you. Missed you this summer but always liked your style, forecasts and the company you keep. :)
Take a look at the replay 9/27 SA the 8th (Caracortado, Undbridled, Chips All In, Boat Trip, Unbridled Note.
Seems u have them all but Rock Me Baby!. At 30-1 ML, breakthrough # at DMR, and blocked in the stretch beaten 2 lengths....why not? A ground saving Talamo tri

Expect to see your A game this year.
Will be heading across I-88 from Northeast Pa the weekend of the 18th (Fri-Mon).
Labor Day is being planned as well.
Been playing most every day from either Pocono or PC Downs.
TG turf numbers have been en fuego.
Looking forward to seeing the gang....Topcat, Richie etc.

Most handicappers data mine.
That is, they formulate an opinion based upon a myriad of factors.
Most handicappers develop their own unique style over the years.
Most handicappers have biases. Good or bad. Correct or Incorrect.
Some key on trainers, some emphasize pace. Some, like my grandfather bet jockeys like Manny Ycaza or Braulio Baeza. :).

Frank,
Nice to see you come out of your Adirondack hibernation. :).
About 75 days until opening day at the SPA....so fatten up your bankroll.
Hope to be a more frequent visitor this summer as my youngest daughter Madeleine now demanding a full week in Saratoga rather than a weekend. Maddie apparently is well bred and on the right training regimen! And I did not need a 'super' vet

Thanks for the input.
Currently, I either attend Mohegan Sun @ Pocono Downs or bet via Twinspires.
Had some IE issues with the live stream so I use Mozilla Firefox that seems to work fine for replays and the Twinspires live option.
I am 'stuck' with IE due to work issues. My company relies on data from 3rd parties that only support IE and not google Chrome etc.Very confusing b

For the AARP crowd, all the high tech stuff can, at times, be rather daunting.
Since my earliest experience in racing dates to First Landing winning the Race of the Week on either channel 9 or 11 (think it as WPIX channel 11), going from a 5 channel black and white Magnavox to a live person to person skyped conversation on a Retina display I-Pad has all been quite remarkable.

Alas poor Axe...I remember him well.
It was 1987. At the Spa it was a rainy and gloomy Friday. The camera crews were setting upfor the much anticipated Travers Stakes. All the best 3 yo's were in town ...and Pete was there too.
After a subdued but winning afternoon, my wife (girlfriend at the time) and I decided to wait out the traffic and stopped in a local saloon for a drink.

Justwin,
First, I would suggest tracking your play.
Keep records of what types of races that you bet: maiden specials, mcls, conditoned claimers (2life, 3life etc.) open claimers. allowances, stakes etc.
Then break down by sprint, route turf, dirt, poly etc.
After some time, a pattern may emerge where you have particular strengths and weaknesses.
For me, I seem to win higher % in MCL s

From one of the shysters that the Weatherman alludes to.....I enjoyed both the Sat and Sun seminars this past weekend.
Great meeting Richiebee for the 1st time and renewing other acquaintances. Sometimes it seems that everyone just sat still at the Carolina BBQ frozen in time for a year.....and then you return....and the familiar faces appear in the same seats etc.

I live in the midst of "Penn State Country".
The time line for Sandusky is here:
First reported incident 1998. Investigated and ultimately no real charges.
The DA who did the early investigation never filed charges....later committed suicide.
About this time, Paterno tells Sandusky "no head coaching job for you" and he takes a state incentivized

Ruth was also a great pitcher.
Whitey Ford broke Ruth's record for consecutive World Series scoreless innings.
Whose record did Ruth break?
Why, none other than the Big Six who hailed from Factoryville, Pa: Christy Mathewson.

Many of you might not have been around around at the time but I remember Majestic Prince and Arts and Letters quite well. In fact, I recently gave a friend of mine a Deby Program with an uncashed Majestic Prince ticket! So, in posting this, I most certainly am showing my age :)

Very tough from the replays to see what the 6 did to merit DQ.
Appeared the 11 came in on the 4.
Apparently the 6 must have crowded the 11 who forced the 4 to take up and lose all chance.
Had top 2 in pik3s. Didn't play the 4.
Cost em some $$ on a very underlayed pik (less than a parlay) with the 18-1, 9/2/ 7/2 pays 331.00...hmmm.

Just back in town after tending to an ill Oregonian relative...
Attended the Belmont (37 years running----Canonero II was my maiden Belmont voyage) and then flew to Oregon where I managed to avoid Portland Meadows for 9 days.
My observations:
Spent a lot of the day watching the women stand in line for the many closed restrooms....
Managed to use a Co-ed restroom at one point....

Silver,
Guess I have to put my 2 cents in on this hedge fund former A.R. Baron broker.
I am familiar with Bob "come Fly with Me" Brennan and A. R. Baron and a host of other Wall Street frauds.
Brennan has been in jail for some time now. Never made a dime for his clients or shareholders. (see the former International Thoroughbred Breeders history) The only money made at the now de

We all suffer tough beats.
But let me defend Cal racing for a moment (with the realization that these comments may fall on deaf ears).
I don't have the sheets handy from yesterday but from memory--
Ever a Friend---first off Mitchell claim ran a 2 and change. Plenty good enough to win this race with a pair up. At those odds, not only had to be used but was probably the standout play

Since no one has touched the 9th, here goes:
4,5,7,10---too slow for my taste
13, 14-----need to improve a bit too much from outside posts
3, 9-------will pass both firsters (like Matlow but barn seems a tad cold)
1----------figuring a reaction to 13 1/2 top
2----------2 vet scratches....layoff....has # power here but have to toss some

After a quick look,
I will probably try to narrow down the 6th for a pick 4 key and exactas.
Although the odds may not be right, #9 BL looks like a decent fit.
Cassidy improved #11 THG I see as main contender.
Pick and choose from the rest for exacta value underneath. I prefer #'s 1,5,7,8 for value play. #'s 10 and 12 seem more obvious and chalky.

Did NYRA have to relinquish their claim of track ownership?
Seemed to me that this claim was a pivotal issue that would have created a legal nightmare.
