Richie..
We get a kick out of Pregman every summer because there's always a time or three during the meet where he shows up in a spot that makes you think twice.. "What is he doing HERE with THIS horse?".. They'll always be about 16-1, and they don't necessarily win, but acquit themselves well and boost exotics. At Toga I rarely leave his horses off wheels and keys..

ANOTHER 'BIG THREE' MAKE GOTHAM GRAND
The 53rd Gr. III Gotham is scheduled for Saturday afternoon on
Aqueduct's main track, and represents an important test for three
colts with serious intentions on the Derby Trail. Galloping Grocer,
Naughty New Yorker and Survivalist will be the favorites in the one
turn mile feature, an

Two points re: KC Boy..
I also thought he ran better than it looked. Besides the wide run into the first turn, if you watch the replay note that when he finds his best stride at the top of the stretch, he is slightly impeded and jostled at the 16th pole and pushed a path left..
I would also suggest, based on his two visits to the Big Easy, Fair Grounds may simply not be a surface he cares for.

The guy's name is CJ.. He's a regular poster at Pace Advantage and very knowledgeable and pleasant, (if a bit cynical..)
We actually had an exchange today over Lost/Fog because he said Aleo was foolish not to have sold the horse if he wasn't going TC event(s) with him. I argued that octogenarian Aleo was thrilled to have perhaps the best sprinter to come along in decades, a

Bit..
When the turf ALW winner, whose name escapes me at this moment, set a mile world record early in the meet, officials remeasured the oval and claimed the dimensions correct and exact to plan. That doesn't mean there isn't something "odd" about the config of course, just that it's measured correctly.
There's nothing wrong with a 9f main, but wasn't it a li

class..
I think McPeek is trying to utilize every possible "experience" that KC Boy may have to deal with at Churchill. He said that he's noticed how much more relaxed Boy is when outside of horses and I suppose he must want to see how capable he is of losing some ground while relaxing off the lead against class competition.

El Camino Has Showcased Many a Quality Sophomore..
While the El Camino cannot match the Louisiana Derby for duration of tradition, it's winner circle has been graced by Preakness winners Tank's Prospect (1985, establishing a new Pimlico record) and Snow Chief (1986, later the 3 year old Eclipse winner), as well as the courageous Cavonnier (1996) and the excellent Event of the Year (199

Thx for the 'ack' Spa! McPeek got EXACTLY what he wanted, and he runs for twice the purse too.. He's pulling a 'Sarava' with this colt..
Here's the LA Derby look-see..
Saturday's sophomore stakes schedule takes us to New Orleans and San Francisco for the Louisiana and El Camino Real Derbies: two events that have histories of identifying classy winners on the

From Derby Trail:
A 'NEW' VERSION OF THE FOUNTAIN
The Fountain of Youth, traditionally run at 8.5f earlier in the Gulfstream meet, has been stretched to 9f thanks to the new track configuration and moved to this later date as part of the curious rescheduling of the historic Florida Derby series. The race has been won by many of the game's greats over its' 58 year run, recen

McPeek will likely scratch KCB with the inside draw.. He specifically wanted to get him outside. Look for him in the LA Derby instead...
(Caveat is the ownership change of Wild Desert...)

I appreciate the input.. (Can't know everything about every circuit). I have been lucky with Oaklawn the last few years though. Wasn't it this race that Crowned King won at a huge number a couple of years ago? Chandra Rennie (yum) for the McAllister's? Or McCullers? The father had recently passed, etc.. I tabbed that one.
I also was a big "Prado Brothers" fan last

HOLTHUS RETURNS GREATER GOOD IN SOUTHWEST
The first of three Oaklawn Park sophomore preps for the Kentucky Derby goes Saturday with the 1 mile Southwest. The series, which culminates in April with the 9f Arkansas Derby, was swept in 2004 by Smarty Jones on the way to his exciting bid to become the second undefeated Triple Crown winner.
The three races had originally looked likely to draw top De

What's interesting about what happened Sat. is that Harlington became the third hopeful in two weeks to have identical wide trips that immediately brought the naysayers out in droves..
Harlington.. High Fly.. Giacomo..
All three had little chance in their respective outings without being at peak form and hard-used. And what trainer that's pointing for the first Sat. in May is going t

RISEN STAR LURES BEST FIELD EVER
The Risen Star has lured an especially competitive field for an 8.5f test that serves as a prep for next month's Gr. II Louisiana Derby. The race itself has only been a graded event for the past few years,
and with its increase in prestige, and potential for graded stakes earnings, has lured better and better fields. S

JB,
It was certainly the case with Point Given. Baffert has said repeatedly that he wished he had gotten a third start into PG before the Derby.. I'll have to do some checking, but I think Timber Country may have been short for one of the two conditioning "angles" as well in '95.
Since this is my first post, I'd like to the opportunity to congratulate you and your org.
