Marlin, that washout did run a nice second to the horse of the year in the Preakness and ran 3rd in the Belmont. Three straight zeroes. Not the strongest year for colts, perhaps, but in the spring he beat those that showed up. Respect.

Nice call by TG on a bad ML favorite. Got lucky on the nose for 2nd and thanks TG for another nice rotw!

I brought Couples into it only because bringing him up seemed to imply a few points I'm too lazy to make conclusively, and obviously you got that. No offense intended. I too would love to see him win it, though if I had to pick one halfway it would be Rory.

Gentle. And he didn't finish Deadwood, either, did he? Hope we get to flail away with JB at the Spa this summer.

You can bitch all you want about the influence of "animal loons" here, but anyone who doesn't believe that that race has already been run (and been decided by open lengths), is kidding themselves.
No TV show, no triple crown winner, nothing, will ever bring this sport back to national prominence, until that question can be answered to the general public's satisfaction.

With only two smallish crops representing those numbers, I'd be inclined to give Bob and John a break on his TG index. Would also note that the mare threw the winner of the 2011 San Felipe and others who were faster routing than sprinting. His figures are more likely to hold him back here, more so than his bloodlines, I'd think. Leaning towards just boxing Bode with the Hollendorfer, wh

Richie, I'd like to book the one of your longshots that isn't "live". I don't believe Ms. Ciccone can do embarrassment.

Love to play poker, but the few times I've been in a casino and peered into the poker room, the atmosphere did seem somewhat less than convivial. Don't doubt for a minute that you have some great tales to tell.
That said, maybe the genius of horse racing is that you don't have to sit around a table with all of the people you are taking money from (or losing to).

Maybe that's not what he was saying, but it's questionable ("apologizing for America"; "if we talk about the economy, we lose!"; and "I like firing people") as to whether that's a crucial factor this year.

Sight, is it possible they are more open to Sanitorium now that they know how he really feels about "blah" people?

Happy new year to Alan, Jerry and all of the TG crew. That great pick 1n the 7th at SA was enough to get me out for the year. No way a small, weekend player like me has a positive ROI without TG. In fact, I dread to think of my 2011 ROI without the help of the ROTW, and this most recent gift of 25-to-2. Great 2012 to all posters and lurkers. Cheers!!! - Bob

Frank, how about this great Hudson Valley weather, eh?
And it says here - - that Steve Byk now has an Eclipse vote, so he can look forward to a whole lot of lobbying from now on.

Couple of things. Boscar, if by "if you can find them", you mean that there were people who knew (systems pawns, finance knights), but who had no juice, I agree. Three or four at least. If you mean they are in Jamaica Bay wearing cement loafers ... not so dire, I'd think.
Second thing. This is not a 1% error. After all the other cuts from the 25 or 26 are paid, what's left

"I'd love to get Milch's take on some of the complaints here, but we'd probably have to clear the room of women and children."
I'm thinking he'd be using that 10-letter job that was sprinkled liberally throughout "Deadwood", even though it didn't really come into vogue until the days of Frances Farmer.

Nice call on the winner, in a corker of a race.
"As far as we can tell Smith has never had a starter coming off more than 30 days rest (profile), but we have to use this one."
Think your stats on Smith are fine. He said in the winner's circle it was his first winner anywhere. No spring chicken. Nice story.

"I loved Boscar Obarra's comment that 50% was the new 20%."
Boscar's bon mots, at the cost of a mere click, are terribly underpriced.
A few year's ago about this time, a friend here in holiday-tip-happy Manhattan suggested that "a fifty was the new twenty". So, while 50% may be the new 20% for certain horse trainers, I am pretty sure that nowadays the twen

Thanks. Small bet. Didn't cash. A poster here (who is at CD) will not believe I did not use any of the Irish ones running 1st, 3rd and 4th.
The one Turf fig was competitive (3rd best, I think), and in that race Excaper did all the running and got caught late by Finale. Had speed and figured to have a better chance of avoiding trouble. I also confess to a weakness for girl jocks who can ge

Great stuff. Magical time to be a hooked up kid in Oakland, Paul! It's funny, ain't it? With all the great wins - including three demo-job Supe wins - it's the bitter losses that stay with you. The phantom fumble game (aka "The Big Lie") is the one I'll never get over. I so wanted to see that Cowboys-Raiders Super Bowl, but it never came to pass. Al probably never go

Condolences on the passing of our godfather yesterday, Paul. I loved this from Dave Anderson's column in the Times:
“I’ve been meaning to ask you a question,” he told me over the phone one day. “When you write about me, you always use that word.”
“What word is that?” I asked.
“Sinister,” he said. “You always call me sinister.”
“I thought you’d consider that a compliment.”
