Thoro-Graph
Prior to a race, you’ll often hear trainers say they’re leaving race riding strategy up to their riders. But Baffert has crowed that he doesn’t like the rail post, so you wonder how strong a directive (not to be on it) this carries over to his race riding instructions, if any. Especially if it’s one of his rallying types. Whatever the case, it’s certainly cost him (uhh... and me) this y

If Talamo relaxes MUCHO GUSTO enough to save ground the first turn, he wins. BUT HE WAS JUST DYING TO BE 4-WIDE THROUGHOUT! Bad ride.

Another great thing about that Nevin horse (off the Philly 2) was that NYRA’s gabbermeister Andy Serling (a notorious sheets and Thorograph hater/disser?) pooh-poohed it prior to the race. Always warms my heart when that happens.

Just saw Jerry’s final figures for the Kentucky Derby, which indicated that GAME WINNER ran the fastest ThoroGraph, yet finished 5th (or 6th). Heavy sigh.
Thought I had a rational Derby wagering strategy based on jockey Joel Rosario’s predilection for going wide - something Jerry had warned about. Essentially, as perhaps others did, I played GAME WINNER to not win, but to rally into the su

The person who did your Race of The Week analysis should never do another one. Or else he should tell us what pools he bets into, so that we can bet into the same ones. In 30 years, I’ve never read an analysis that made me shake my head more. If your Race Of The Week is an educational exercise, the overwhelming point to your users should’ve been: BEWARE WHEN A TRAINER RUNS A -2 FIRST TIME OUT

The 21 horse deaths at Santa Anita have nothing to do with track condition! Only morons believe this. Including some horse trainers I know who barely graduated high school, with little or no science background. Cornell Pathology professor George Maylin proved it’s overnutrition and drug factors that cause breakdowns. Steroids effect bone. And we’re not even talkin’ all the rat poison crap f

You just sent an e-mail update of AEROLITHE in Saturday's GP 11th. What's different than the sheet I uploaded last night?

Yes, I do import the pdf to iBooks (which, over time, forms a library of the sheets I download). However, I typically do this on a 12 inch iPad, which means no squinting.
By the way, I’m at the 1 Hotel in South Beach. It’s terrific... except you can’t print the frigging DRF pps there because they block you. No porn and no DRF.

Traveled down from NY to Miami for a week to just watch the clouds go by and rest. Decided not to take my large iPad. Bad move, because I suddenly got this uncontrollable urge to go to Gulfstream.
To get a racing form, I googled DRF sales locations on my phone. But of course, DRF’s info was incorrect. I wasted an hour trying to find a bogus news store. Then, I tried going to my hotel busine

Will there be sheets posted for Gulfstream's Saturday card... minus the Carribean races? The first 6 races?

I’ll just say that Tyler Gaffalione can really ride. Certainly a rising star. See his win today on the turf at Kee.

Jerry: Any thoughts about SOMELIKEITHOTBROWN's last race effort? He goes in tomorrow's G3 feature at Sar. Even DRF was stumped by his impressive S-MSW turf route win. CATHOLIC BOY won this race last year with an 11.5 and that's about what's needed to win here. Thanks.

Jerry: Any feedback on AVOCADO TOAST's last at Mth? 2 yr. old filly drew rail for stake tomorrow, 9th race at Sar. Higher than a 12, right?

A 2 yr. old filly running in the Sorrento Stakes today at Del Mar debuted last month by running a preposterous ThoroGraph 4 last month! That's smoking fast. Too fast.
But the point is... the filly LOST that day, to a Jerry Hollendorfer-trained freak who ran even FASTER! Whoah.

Saratoga late Pick-5 paid out $1,001 per .50 bet yesterday that included a winning odds sequence with 4 obvious favorites:
3-2 * / 2-1 * / 5-2 * / 1-1 * / 5-1. That's with two Chads, a Todd and a Brad.

It doesn't take much intelligence to take off your clothes and be a stripper. And it doesn't take much intelligence to give your horse to Chad Brown. Hey, everyone should do it! Yeah!

In addition to “Shotgun†Geroux’s ride in the Belmont, note what he DIDN’T do in the Preakness.
In the Preakness on a sloppy speed favoring track, Geroux had the rail with QUIP, a colt who had skipped the Derby and pointed to that race. Geroux said publicly he'd go to the front with his speedy colt, even if his horse was owned by the same people who owned JUSTIFY. Curiously though

- Gary Sanchez of the Yankees hit a zillion homers per at bat at the end of his rookie year two years ago, rivaling Babe Ruth, etc.
- Aaron Judge hit 59 homers last year, rivaling Babe Ruth, etc.
- Bret Gardner had a ridiculous run last year.
- Gleyber Torres has hit 10 homers very quickly this year. Ridiculous.
All of the above completely unexpected by Yankee scouts and executives.

Throw a tomato at the Pimlico feed broadcasters who said the track played fair today. It did not. The strip was a speed-favoring wet bog. Get to the front early and you won.
But Pimlico racing analysts, Acacia Courtney and Ron Nicoletti, repeatedly told their audience the Pimlico surface was playing fair! Huh? Each time they said it - once while interviewing Steve Asmussen after his horse went

Wesley Ward, Chad Brown and Brad Cox dominated the Keeneland Spring meet. A better word may be DEVASTATED. Everything those guys threw on the track ran giant. I've rarely seen a trainer colony completely overwhelmed like the past three weeks.
Chad Brown's just getting started...
Wesley Ward's 2 yr olds? You'll never see them again.

My hurried take on the Pennsylvania Derby boils down to: Who'll run a 0 or less (with, of course, a good ground-saving trip). Note via the TG Archives that Baffert's BAYERN won this race by 6 lengths in 2014 with a -1.5.
A bunch of these runners have bone-rattlingly fast negative figures in their pasts. The essential task here is to interpolate their regression or recovery status. Th
