Wasn't it TGJB that said to make sure to not make your post-Belmont dinner reservations in Manhattan any sooner than 930? Better make that 1130. Just saw a tweet that 20k ppl are still stuck there after 10pm, picture in this link

Yeah, a good example of "geared down" would be that old-timer lady jockey race earlier that day where the 2nd place finisher was on an open lead and the jock stood up in the saddle 10 jumps prior to the line, costing the horse the race.

Verrazano ran a -4 at 9F and destroyed (an admittedly weak) G1 field. I doubt Social Inclusion is capable of that, but guessing we will probably get a chance to see as the speed-favoring MTH surface makes perfect sense for him.

Some brief history on nasal strips.
As near as I can tell from a google search, Equibase started providing the nasal strip info in their PPs around 2000 according to this press release dated 3.27.2000
In 2011 it appears DRF discontinued providing the info, for reasons described here:
I can definitely remember nasal strip info being in Keeneland programs in the mid 2000s, but don&

My problem with CC getting a -1 is that means ROC got at least a -1, maybe even a -2. I'm not saying that's impossible for him to have that large an improvement, just would be pretty unusual off that kind of pattern.
But yes, it likely is much better for his TC prospects if he did just do something like pair a zero, there may be something left in the tank.

I've got such mixed feelings about it, I definitely respect what he has done the past 2 races and thought the "slow" tag he was getting for his Derby from most others was ridiculous.
But even with TG giving him a new top, it wasn't yet a negative number and seemed to make the achievement less impressive than Big Brown, Barbaro, even Rachel, etc.
I'm not sure if he r

Is it safe to assume they put a ton of extra sand in the track? Saw a picture on twitter where they appeared to be doing that prior to the storms hitting. Would that mean a slower, tiring track if indeed it is on it's way to drying out by the end of the day?

Im guessing the origin of Lee Ho Fook comes from the Korean airliner that ran off the runway in SanFran (?) last year. Someone went to press with information someone had called in giving the names of the flight crew. They has assigned ridiculous names, and I believe the pilots name was Ho Lee Fook and so on and some news broadcast actually put this on the air. They had to retract it the next d

Silver, the bulk of the rain in that system was not coming from the south, it came from the midwest and dumped plenty of rain on us the last 24 hours. There are both flash flood and coastal flooding watches for Baltimore tomorrow, and I doubt they would issue those things lightly.

TGJB, since I promised not to respond to any of MIFFs posts, I'll respond to yours instead. Not only is he not reading or understanding what you are saying, the statements he is making (not backed up by any data he has provided) are statistically false and it is downright laughable to state there is no statistical data to back up the fact that horses with more rest perform better OR win mor

Not sure what website you are using, but if you watch the long range forecast on Weather Channel on TV it is very apparent they are going to get a ton of rain on Friday. And then go to the internet and do a Baltimore forecast, on the 5 day forecast they even put bright orange letters on Friday that says "potential for heavy rainfall".

You have to keep in mind that the wind impact on the early fractions of this race was far different than anything else run on dirt that day because the entire 1st quarter was run into the wind, unlike all the other races. The raw time was slower than most recent derbies (22 and 1 or 22 and 2 the past couple years) but it doesn't mean that the horses were "slower" or putting forth

Jim, I can't remember the exact reasons you said you didn't like CCurve, but I think one of them was Welsch's workout report?
Just wanted to share Bruno's insight on that in case it helps anyone learn for the future.
The work CCurve did 2 back was the only 5 star work he gave for the derby. Said it was huge and he came home final quarter in 22.3 on a 5F work, galloping

Joe, that's just complete rubbish. Horses with "no turn of foot" dont finish the last part of a 5F workout in 22.4. It's a real shame we didn't get to see his stretch run unleashed without a headwind, it would have been interesting.

I disliked him for more than just the odds, but that's not the point. It's ridiculous to think that people need to feel less satisfied just because they didn't like the winner of a race. If I can get $31 place prices, I dont care if I ever pick another winner in my entire life.

I'm very interested to hear what the xpert figure makers have to say about the day. Again, if you look at footage in HD from yesterday on TV, like in the post parades, the jockeys silks are BILLOWING in the face of what seems to be a very strong wind into the face of closers.
It's reminiscent of the Wood last year.
Maybe the track was also "speed favoring", but my guess

Well, that's what makes racing great I guess. People can feel they got the race "right" for tabing a $7 winner, while other people can feel they got the race "right" for tabing a $31 place horse and likely making a lot more money than folks who used the winner. They can keep the satisfaction of picking the winner, I'm better with the satisfaction of making more mon

They absolutely did. Watch replays of the post parades all day if you DVRd it, the wind was blowing right into the faces of the homestretch all day at a pretty good clip. I think the wind caused many people to cry speed track, when it may have really been fair but the wind helped front runners most of the day.

The problem is that Curve's performance validates the VIT number. If you change VIT, you have to make Curve look worse too. VIT had horrible traffic trouble today, can't use these results to validate or invalidate anything dealing with VIT or the others that had bad traffic problems.
