Why I oughta...let's see you come up with a line that good. Dandy Don!
I'll give YOU a canard.

The aphorism was coined by the Dallas Cowboys quarterback, Don Meredith, who became a sports commentator for Monday Night Football in 1970.
17 December 1970,
Howard Cosell: “If Los Angeles wins, it’s a big one, but San Francisco is still very much in it.”
Don Meredith: “If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we’d all have a merry Christmas.”
Howard: “I didn’t think you’d remember that old

JB - "If ifs and buts were candy and nuts we'd all have a Merry Christmas."
Now...who coined this phrase? Without looking it up. It's a good one!

I don't see all that but hey, it's horse racing. There was no dirt form to evaluate. He liked Churchill and jumped up. Happens with 3yos and happens with surface switches. Horse could be great and just totally concealed by what they asked him to do before the Derby.
Other than that the early pace killed most of them. Zandon did what he was supposed to, and as per what JB said in his

Leon got to the rail and there was room because they were so strung out. He had a spot and kept going. Irad and Mo almost ran into the rail at the start? Irad was on the rail too, but when they got to the second turn if you watch the replay there was a solid wall on the inside and Irad had a seam to get out behind for some room, but once he got in there he had to keep drifting out until he had

Best Derby ride ever? Right on the break he cuts behind straight to the rail. Just like he went to a TG seminar on ground loss.
On the turn he had to muscle in between, and down the stretch he had to maneuver again briefly off the rail and then he got right back to it to pass the last two. Absolutely phenomenal. Race collapsed and he put himself in position to win. Lots of sour grapes o

That's quite a play.
Not tentative this year! Everyone gunning. I was hoping Zandon would get second and that horse coming was one of mine...but NO!
Synth to dirt, another angle. Yay.
Have a great night all. Wait till next year!

Yeah, the outside horses are going to have to work hard going into the first turn to get spots which may hurt them late. Messier got a great draw and if he takes off and rates well we've seen that movie several times.

Mo Donegal - is anyone happier about the Baffert mess than Todd Pletcher? The original White Mercedes? I think the cursed one hole may be good as he will definitely save ground and if anyone can steer him through the mess late it's Irad. Perfect sheet, I know most don't get new tops, especially TAP, but I like this one. I just do.

There are about 10-12 horses in this race with “positional speed” as you put it. It’s not a War Emblem race where one horse is going to take over? Messier looks to have a little more early lick than most but it’s not overwhelming. What I usually see is that a lot of jockeys get tentative in the big race, but if most run true to form about half the field wants to run the first half in about 0:47.

“A couple of nanograms, I don’t know how it got into the horse’s system. It certainly didn’t make him run faster.”
Sound familiar? If you don’t know how drugs end up in your horse you shouldn’t have a license to train. I don’t care if it’s aspirin, it’s his responsibility and if he’s not accountable he should be gone.

Really? This is saying it best? How about “if Baffert was pulled over for a busted tail light he would say he meant to fix it but he was a distracted when he saw a groom pissing on a pile of hay.” I like that better. Baffert is not a victim. He has no qualms about dragging down what’s left of the credibility of the sport.

This is interesting, but if 30% of turf route winners are on the lead at the half mile pole, and 30% are within two lengths that’s not exactly “evenly distributed?” That favors runners on or near the lead, and then out of the next 30% that you have within 2 to 6 lengths, let’s say half of those are within 4 lengths. That’s a pretty strong front running bias for turf routes? About 75% of runners w

This is conventional wisdom about turf racing. If you’re watching what’s going on at Gulfstream with turf racing horses on the lead are dominating. I don’t see too many coming with rallies from the back of the pack at all. And if they do rally it’s too late to win, even at the longer distances (and there haven’t been too many of those races). This could be a function of longer stretches without t

Sir with all due respect there has never been any money or any “angle†involved in betting six horse fields at Finger Lakes. Ever. Surely there are better examples to make your point.

I think you could substitute “any big race day anywhere†for “Saratoga Travers Day†and be correct, but seeing your chart for Travers Day is eye opening.
Kentucky Downs soon, that’s usually a good week. Breeders Cup can be okay too.

We called it Vazac’s, not 7B. Mark Boone, Jr. was a bartender there when he was doing performances with Steve Buscemi. I lent Rockets Redglare $5 about 50 times. Unrecognizable over there now.

Tomorrow is the Haskell and that will be too crowded for me so I went to Monmouth tonight. Check out the results and chart of the third race, and take a look at the horse that finished last. You can check the red board room tomorrow.
This trainer claimed the horse from Rudy Rodriguez and he just ran about ten days ago. This guy totally dominates the cheap claiming races but if the horses are

Handicapping - This year's BC Juvenile, Princess Noor. How many of us included this horse? Because it was Baffert? And if it wasn't Baffert how many of us would have bet her? My answers - Me and not me. How many of us have done this and how much money have we blown through doing it? Because of all this wink wink I think he's cheating stuff.
In fairness to Baffert we can

I don’t know about Fox News, but talking about Baffert positives is talking about handicapping.
I look at a race and see Baffert has a horse in there. So I’m handicapping and now I have to say, “doesn’t figure but it’s Baffert.†I’ve seen the “but it’s Baffert†comment many times, including in TG analysis. It’s a huge handicapping factor that costs money to cover and dea

There’s a solution. Boycott races with Baffert entries. Don’t bet on them. Make your voice heard at the windows.

Wow. Arthur looks terrible, but he’s retiring. Lots of dead ends. It’s clear from this that California isn’t going to lay a glove on Baffert short of having him dope horses right in front of the grandstand. He’ll be back, just a matter of where and when. Ugh.

I’m not a lawyer but I think this is a good strategy. The KHRC admitted they messed up handling the blood sample and the split urine sample is degrading every day. He’s whittling away. It’s more than I thought he could do.
