Insane pace cooked a lot of them. Changed the complexion of the entire race. Even Joel got sucked in. Flying mud didn't help.
Wasn't Mine That Bird out of a Smart Strike mare? Didn't his sire excel at a mile and a quarter? Raced on poly? Sound familiar?
I sure as hell didn't have the winner. But unusual things are supposed to happen when we get a race like that. I love

Nice hit Paul & excellent Oaks analysis from Jerry. The guy’s got a pretty good track record with this one.

very interesting pace projector.
if the Japanese colt is sitting there, they should give him the trophy before they hit the wire the first time.
Tiz the Bomb is another runner who should love a mile and a quarter. but he ain't winning from there.
and Zandon at the rear?
Messier fits well here, for a few reasons. but he's getting a lot of attention. not sure what the price is

Jerry, great job in finding that kind of value in what most thought was a useless betting race.
And nice to see this ROTW advertised on national tv.

People are hoping for a 10f race on May 2.
Why not run the Travers at Aqu or Bel on May 2? Stronach could hold the Preakness at GP, then back to NY for the Belmont 3 weeks later.
They could fill the usual Travers day card with the new turf triple races.

Baffert last year made Roadster his top 2019 Derby selection. Baffert wouldn't have put a plodder in that spot, and Roadster ain't bred to be a plodder. There's a brilliant mix of speed and stamina top & bottom. He's been running over very deep SA surfaces, not far behind very quick horses. Point is, from post 15, Roadster might wind up getting a pretty darn good 3w trip,

The wrong races are up for Saratoga Friday.
Actually not a bad card for all NY breds.

Tread,
If you really like one part of a coupled entry and not the other, and the other horse takes action, the race is ruined. Your play is gone.
And then you have the scratch issue.
And of course the shenanigans that take place with uncoupled entries.
Personally, for every one race that is ruined because I can not figure out what might or might not take place with an uncoupled entry

I didn't see that. probably helps Mendel fans a bit.

I thought Thunder Snow was the best 10f dirt horse in the race last year, and he probably was. but that didn't make it a good bet. now we have Mendelssohn coming over at less than half the price. more speed, better connections, and a perfect post certainly make him a more likely winner than TS, but is there really any value here? the # is fast, but so is the Beyer. everybody knows he's

good hit sek. fine analysis in the first two legs.
congrats to Jerry as well for nailing the winner. and to Jimbo for getting the top 2 in there.
forget calling Javier the best jock. that debate is over. it's now time to put him in the TB12 and Lebron category.

this is a pretty handy horse in the early stages, with a nice cruising speed. if he breaks well, the 2 hole might lead to a good inside trip, maybe 5 to 8 lengths off the top group. plenty of dirt on the bottom of the pedigree, tons of stamina as well. slow going in, but lasix should help. not that concerned about past Dubai flops as none of them fit like this guy. if TS changes leads properly,

my guess:
CE: 5 or 6-1
AD: 6 or 7-1
IWC: 8 or 9-1
Crak: 12-1
Thunder S & Gunn: 14-1
Joke, Girv & Gorm: 16-1

yes, I'm expecting some tactical speed from Epicharis. it will be a great sign if he does show speed in Dubai, as there is a solid mix of Euro stamina and dirt class on the bottom of the pedigree.
I got some action down earlier in Vegas at better levels. one book was showing 120-1, but that disappeared quickly.

2 1/2 length winner and $10.40. great pick, Richie.
brutal watching Lanerie get checked on the CD pick. I used to like that guy. now it seems like he gets checked out of every big race he's in.
the winner of the Golden Rod is 1/2 to Carpe Diem. went a fast as the boys (though McCraken lost some ground).
