One of the most electrifying live guitar performances in rock, though the category goes very deep, probably starting with Jimi.

Add one more name to the list of those who started with horse and sulky. My dad owned a string of Standardbreds, and a few were pretty good, with one finishing third in the Little Brown Jug. When he died unexpectedly in his sleep I unexpectedly inherited the responsibility of subsidizing his trainer/driver. After a few years of flushing money down the crapper, I told my mother I was considering

Love the story. Here's another with a less dramatic conclusion. Every year, my father would take a private train to the Derby from Rochester with a group of locals. That would be a story unto itself, but the details are now in the great beyond. At Churchill, they had a private box, and for quite a few years the adjoining one was occupied by Hornung, Jimmy the Greek and their entourage.

Richie, always a pleasure reading your musings on any subject. You provide enough food for thought to feed a family of ten academicians. In such a gathering, I would be relegated to the children's table.
I grew up with the raucous holiday gatherings of an extended Italian family, and dinner was a full day's work, and my eldest aunt, the matriarchal figure, would literally stay up a

I thought the use of color was spectacular. Been hoping for years that TG would evolve beyond the monochromatic format.
Side note: the comment by Curtis, above, cost me a mouthful of coffee that I had really been hoping to enjoy.

OK, if we're doing personal greatest hits, when I was a kid, my family went on a vacation to the Bahamas, and at the resort where we were staying, they were filming a movie with Jean Simmons, Shirley Jones, Lloyd Bridges, and Bobby Darin. Might have been othe

Many people would know more about this than I do, but I don't think they can jam your 4G or 5G usage with your iPad. I had no problem this winter at Gulfstream using my iPad with NYRABets and TwinSpires, though there were days when I wish I had. At a local harness track where I went recently for a handicapping contest, they blocked sites on their WiFi hookup, but I got on through the ozone

We can wail and gnash our teeth until the jackasses come home about PETA or Joe Drape or ESPN or whomever else is jumping on the overreaction bandwagon, but that "feel good" response will have nothing to do with addressing what is a major perception problem growing by the day. I have good friends who are neither racing fans nor animal rights zealots who now talk about this with thinly

Rarely, perhaps never, have I seen so many extraneous issues brought to bear on a discussion. I didn't think I had anything to offer because, at its core, it's a simple question of application of a rule, or rules, to a specific incident. Since I don't know the exact wording of the rule, I didn't think I was qualified to comment, but absent that knowledge, I thought it was th

I read where Mark Casse said (it's cited in another thread on this board) that Gaffalione shouldn't have been put in that position where he had to make a claim, that it was on the stewards to flash what seemed like an obvious Inquiry (or at least w
