Reminds of that story about how 100 years ago there were two cars registered in the state of Nebraska ... and they smashed into each other.

Hey, Strike. There's only so much time you can spend reading, writing, doing crossword puzzles, and I've had enough with looking at the news for a while, so I did a little leg work on the Judge.
You probably know that he was sold to Japanese interests for stud duty. He didn't do all that much over there (some decent broodmares and he did sire a champion steeplechaser), but there

Didn't mean it as fact-check, just curious and love these stories.
The one that sticks with me was a September (1991) 2YO, second-time starter for Woody Stephens named Onlooker. Not a sheets play, but won a maiden special by 10 and paid $39.80. Still remember that sweet feeling of being the only one in my section of the Belmont grandstand cheering him on. I was hooked.

Funny how indelible those memories are, huh?
May 15, 1993. 6th at GG. Turkish Lord is the 5th choice in a 6-horse field, draws off to win by 3, pays $19.80.
And we all know you meant the '89 Preakness.

And now there's not even any going to the movies.
Speaking of movies ...
We'll meet again,
Don't know where,
Don't know when,
But I know we'll meet again,
Some sunny day.
Take care, Richie.

Thanks, Dick. Funny thing, figured 12F at the Spa would have to start on the turn and that would be bad news for a classic race, but totally forgot that the Big A is also a 9F oval. I wonder how big the fields were for those races.
Regardless, I can't overstate how much I hate starting a big race on a turn. To me, it's a good reason to not have the BC at Belmont. I remember when they

That's for damn sure! If the Derby is on the first Saturday in September, Baffert will be using it as a prep for the BC Classic.

Well, you can't do 12 furlongs for one thing. Been more than a century since it was run at anything other than 12F.

Yes, but the problem is Lasix is on USADA's list of banned substances. If you could get a carve-out for Lasix (or phase it out over 5 or 10 years) then you'd be able to call the bluff of trainers who use Lasix as a reason to fight the legislation.
Thing is, I doubt that USADA has a test for "monkey", and I wonder if we'd be better off with the "on-track pharmacy&q

You're both right, "Ouchie" being the spelling for the noun form and "ouchy" for the adjectival.

Well, for one thing, she's Irish, not American (a half to Sotsass, 3rd in today's Arc). Then there's Tepin, who beat males in the BC Mile and who also won a Group 1 at Royal Ascot.

It seems obvious that the story broke now because someone who either has access to the inner workings of the CHRB, or who was provided access, decided to drop a dime to Drape. That's why Drape has emails, overage amounts, etc that aren't being disputed. You know, the basic way that coverups become uncovered.
Of course, the $64,000 question is who would do such a thing and what are hi

I figured he meant Saturday's edition, which, admittedly, I have not seen.
EDIT: I also assumed ...
a. KD was not in Thursday's eastern edition (never saw it)
b. That the new management team at KD declined to pony up to be included in the eastern edition (similar to CD in recent months)
c. That when you said "the most logical reason of all" you meant "money"

Pays 75% of the net pool. Effective takeout is 40% on the E6, 15% on the P5. Sounds like the E6 costs mo

My rigorous study is limited to takeout rates, and the NYRA exacta takeout of 18.5% is lower than any major NA racetrack with the exception of Kentucky Downs (18.25%).
For comparison: Keeneland (19.5%), Gulfstream (20%), Churchill (22%), and Santa Anita and Del Mar (both 22.68%).
Funny thing, a couple of years ago a Southern California race scratched down to two horses, yet the track still

The last year that DRF had its print circulation publicly reported (12 months ended March 2007), it was selling averages of 66,000 on Saturdays, 44,000 Sundays, and 25,000 during the week.
So, even if print is down by 60%, that's still 94,0
