"A 23-page analysis of that case, sent to the CHRB by a California deputy attorney general in July and obtained by The Post, suggests the state’s lawyers were concerned about the way the agency responded to the failed drug test. A court, the state’s lawyer wrote, 'could find that the CHRB abused its discretion and acted in a manner that was arbitrary, capricious, or entirely lac

Yep, it sure is a mystery why the sport has a problem attracting new blood.

All of this is, forgive me, but, @#$%&!
Do the codes say the drug is only illegal if given by needle, or for a purpose, or if a certain effect is achieved? Do the codes ask for an inquiry into trainers intent?
No?
Then why is anyone talking about it?

Yeah, if the horse is in the gate, he's the favorite and it won't be remotely close. In the last 20ish years, it's only the very longshot Derby winners who run in but don't go off favored in the Preakness.

I agree that the Race Shapes are a good tool, but think the Derby (this Derby perhaps especially) is a bad example.
Consider that Medina Spirit in his last race (SA Derby) did not make the lead, and that the horse that outsprinted him for the lead in the SA Derby was in this race.
The Race Shape takes into account that Rock Your World ran two turf races before the SA Derby, each with 24 1/5

#6 - Glass Slippers has improved over the course of the season last year and this year again, and this year they've decided to extend her season by one race for this.
You have to squint a little to make out the case, but she has been slightly faster at each step this year vs. last - until catching a complete bog at Longchamp in her last. Any improvement on last year's last race makes

Wouldn't think it had that big an impact, but no one in NV put a dollar through the pari-mutuel pools as CDI and the casinos couldn't reach detente this year.

I am going to take a swing with #4, Shayna Bay, assuming I get close to the 5/1 ML.
Trainer gets a lot of tops with 3 year olds making their 2nd attempt, and both sides of family suggest dirt will be preferred vs. the turf she tried in her first go.

Wow:
"Louis Cella, the owner and president of Oaklawn Park, said the commission was 'grabbing the bull by the horns.'
'We will not have a situation like in California, where a horse ran in the Kentucky Derby after failing a drug test,' Cella said, referring to a test failed by Justify, the 2018 Triple Crown winner. 'That was an embarrassment to the industry

If my memory serves me, JB discussed something similar in a seminar for one of the SA Breeders' Cups ages ago, the "Poly Pop," I think.
The gist, from what (little!) I remember, was about what you describe: a horse who runs frequently on dirt sometimes jumps forward in their first try on an artificial surface. Can't recall more detail, sorry.

Exactly so!
As my international law professor taught: "The thing you have to remember is, there is hardly any international law. The guiding principle is, the guy with the most tanks generally gets to decide what the law is."
Trump won't bring his tanks to bear, so Servis/West tanks are outgunned by MBS's. Ipso facto, no pay-o.

For those of us in Nevada, it appears even Living Room Downs isn't running.
As far as I can tell, it is presently impossible to (legally) bet a horse race in the state of Nevada. Apps are all shut off - or at least, the ones I have accounts with are.
Hope you're all healthy and safe, and staying that way.

I don't practice that much in federal court, but it's important to recognize that when the DOJ trumpets "Could face 10 years!" that is often quite unrealistic.
The federal sentencing guidelines (substantially, at least) control what the eventual sentence will be. Factors like any prior criminal history, the amount of $ loss the feds can prove up, # of jobs lost, etc., all c

From the MANGINI/ROBINSON indictment, paragraph 26(b): "On or about December 18, 2019, MANGINI shipped and caused to be shipped, via the USPS, approximately 24 parcels of race horse PEDs from a location in Florida to, among other locations, AZ, CA, KY, LA, MI, MO, OH, OK, PA, TN, TX, UT, WA, and the Spanish island of Mallorca."
