EVERYBODY KNOWS... - 2 years ago
A favorite song by Leonard Cohen: EVERYBODY KNOWS Everybody knows that the dice are loaded Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed Everybody knows the war is over Everybody knows the good guys lost Everybody knows the fight was fixed The poor stay poor, the rich get rich, that’s how it goes Everybody knows Everybody knows that the boat is leaking Everybody knows the captain lieby JohnTChance - Ask the Experts
She must've forgotten... - 2 years ago
After Japan’s CROWN PRIDE won the UAE Derby at 1 3/16 m today at Meydan, TVG’s Michelle Yu commented on the winner’s Kentucky Derby prospects. Alluding to the distance the colt just conquered, Yu gave viewers another example of her usual gobbledygook: “He’s going to have an advantage no other horse is going to have!” she proclaimed. No other horse? The Louisiana Derby was to be run later in thby JohnTChance - Ask the Experts
Re: Withers Beyers increased by 9 points! Jerry? - 2 years ago
At 40-1, Maker became my underkey (part-backwheel) when Chad scratched his horse. I killed the race. Beware Maker’s young horses this time of year zooming forward. Especially at Turfway soon. It happens every Spring with him there. Here though, at Tampa, he scored a nice check but he apparently did not move forward. During the week, everyone expected huge volcanic rain at Tampa last Saturday.by JohnTChance - Ask the Experts
Withers Beyers increased by 9 points! Jerry? - 2 years ago
The Beyer Speed Figures for horses who ran in the Withers have been increased by a whopping nine points each! UN OJO’s number has been upgraded to an 80. He earned a career-high 84 winning the Rebel at 75-1. Jerry Brown: Did you alter your Withers ratings too? I tossed UN OJO in the Rebel, but if he'd come off a much better ThoroGraph in the Withers...by JohnTChance - Ask the Experts

You can now safely return to betting Diodoro at OP. His bad month is over there. He's won 2 today in mid-card. He's back on Broadway with the zotz.by JohnTChance - Ask the Experts
No-fig ‘boxed’ horse wins again… - 2 years ago
Longshot EMBLEM ROAD just won the $20 million Saudi Cup. Denied a huge score, I threw a tomato at the wall. Then, suffered more displeasure when commentator Michelle Yu (Ugh. She’s terrible) reasoned after-the-fact that the son of QUALITY ROAD had a pedigree meant to go this far, a mile and an eighth. Wrong. Quality Road’s are milers. Sigh. Onward…by JohnTChance - Ask the Experts
Re: Oaklawn: Bet this, not that… - 2 years ago
I suspect certain power trainers who have horses on multiple circuits (Asmussen, Diodoro, Broberg) have only 1 go-to “A” private vet. That is… er, a guy who’s “most aggressive medically.” If that vet services Broberg’s Remington meet, he can’t be with him at the beginning of Oaklawn. The guy takes an-end-of-year vacation and then shows up in February at Broberg’s barn. Suddenly, the barn returnsby JohnTChance - Ask the Experts
Oaklawn: Bet this, not that… - 2 years ago
There’s been a reversal of fortunes for two power trainers at Oaklawn: ROBERTINO DIODORO has gone cold. He’s won 1 out his last 34 starts. And the win was life-and-death by a neck at 3-5. Far from his norm. KARL BROBERG, after a horrendously bad start, has won 6 of his last 12 starts (with 3 seconds).by JohnTChance - Ask the Experts

I'm grateful for your actions this time. Because last year, when Oaklawn cancelled a card I'd purchased, I most certainly DID NOT receive a credit!by JohnTChance - Ask the Experts

Re: Let me put it this way - 2 years ago
Before the race, I thought 2nd place finisher Baby Yoda would circle back to a 3-ish. And the eventual third-place finisher, Stiletto Boy, having paired 2’s, would also run a 3-ish, backing up slightly. Dr. Schivel tubed, so he can’t be used for interpolation purposes. After the race, my immediate thought was Flightline paired his -5. It was visually impressive. But since Flightline won by 12by JohnTChance - Ask the Experts
Oaklawn hides replay w/infraction and inquiry… - 2 years ago
Sunday, December 19, Oaklawn’s 5th race: Result: 3… 11… 1… 4… The 4 claims foul against the 3 in the stretch and also, the stewards put up the inquiry sign. The track video shows the saddle numbers with indications of the inquiry and jock’s objection. BUT DOES OAKLAWN SHOW THE REPLAY TO THE PUBLIC IN REAL TIME AS THE STEWARDS LOOK AT IT? No! Incredible! What an outrage! But wait. There’sby JohnTChance - Ask the Experts

Re: Medina Spirit - 3 years ago
Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. And sad. I thought it surprising that MEDINA SPIRIT ran a new top in the BC Classic. I expected him to pair up his last: a -1 at best. Yet he did improve. 4W4W. I don't know what get(s) into Bob Baffert's horses. Only Vin Baker knows. And he ain't sayin. So... I’m watching the 9th race of the Indiana Derby Day card just now. Ken McPeek has GRAN BABY, a foreign shipper from Chile entered. Druckenmiller: Make high conviction plays... - 3 years ago
In a recent interview, top Wall Street investor Stanley Druckenmiller says: Make concentrated bets in high conviction plays. Don’t practice the business school teaching of diversification. That’s great advice. A lesson I've often had to relearn. Especially this time of year as two-yr. olds come out . > It's poker, and they get to see all the cards, you don't Yes. OK. So how do you level the playing field? How do you fix the racing cesspool? You set up a system where: 1. Vets (private and otherwise) don't/can't inject any animal. Vets can diagnose all they want. But they can't bring pharmaceuticals into the track. HUGE FRUSTRATION THAT DESTROYED MY PICK-5: Derby Day at Churchill, race 1: Team Lukas moves up RAM to an improbable win at 10-1.
